Subaru Aluminium Bonnet

The American RS weighs in at a hefty 2840lbs. If you are like me - you have considered putting your car on a diet. But if you are also like me - then you know that these light weight parts are not cheap! I figure I have just over a $1000 into this bonnet!!!
So why did I do it? Well - it all started in the summer of 1999 when I was driving near one of our many golf courses. A sliced ball flew off the course, across the road and smacked my car right in the bonnet! The damage was further compounded by the fact that it had hit the body line of the bonnet. That afternoon - I placed a call to my insurance company and had the car appraised at an approved shop. The damage would be $630 to repair! Well, I realized right then and there that I shouldn't have that check cut out to me. I had nationwide make the check out to SPD Tuning Service and a week later, I received a large box in the mail. Check out these pictures of the finished product for a better understanding!
Here is the Bonnet after it was painted and installed on my car. Nothing out of the ordinary here...
Here is the underside of the bonnet. I didn't want it painted blue because I wanted to realize the full weight saving potential. heh. Anybody know what 4 or 5 coats of paint weighs? I bet it isn't all that much - but it sure looks impressive! Note the clearly visible JC Sports strut tower bar!
Here is me holding up the bonnet with my left hand pinkie finger. Don't try this with your stock steel bonnet!!! And don't even ask about what kind of coordination it takes to hold up a bonnet like this while taking a picture! LOL Just for reference - I have been told that the aluminium bonnet drops 30lbs off the front of your car.
