Sunday Drivers
hi i was just wandering on your views of these cars as in performance, handling, maintenace and what to look out for when goin to look at them.... so far i know that to remapp them can be a bit or a problem as they run on 104 oct or so ive read but thought id get all the ppl on here genuine subaru owners there views on the cars cheers??

i have one......and i fokin love it.
things ied look out for.....
look past the nice clean engine bay and look in around the battery cradle making sure the looms and the leads to the plugs are ok.
listen for noisey pulleys
look in the engine bay for wires earthed to the chassis for the likes of after market accessories , make sure the earthed propperly and the looms are heat shrunk.
do your best to check the exhaust, mine had a weld right where the backbox meets the centre section so the option of fitting a back box only was out so i fitted a cat back.
when you take if tor a test drive make sure its warmed up of it will feel sluggish......on my car the temp goes up to half way and sits there when warm, also idles at 1500 rpm when cold and settles down to around 500 rpm when warmed up.
thats all i can think of for now.

anything on the gearox side of things as in beware of crunching noises if any or are the gearbox normally goo in the legacy's

fantasic car the b4 .. comfort and performance. if looked after they are fine .. trash it and you,ll pay for it .. if your buying straight in from japan be prepared to spend a couple of grand to get it spot on .

another thing what about the petrol i hear some ppl put octane booster init do ya hve to do this all the time to make sure it runs right or whats the story with it.. i know the b4's run on 104oct well in japan they do but would it be ok running it on e5 or would ya be better mapping the thing.. likw if i get one which i prob will now ill change fuel pumps and filter and all on first service even the day i prob buy the thing it will be driven home to the garage and full service be done.. really just askin whats the story with running them on irish fuel

you should check out smurfs b4  as said before shes in mint condition and you,ll be saving yourself a few grand...rather than buying straight from a dealer...sorry for goin of topic  :subaru:

Running a B4 on 95 Octane is a no-no. Minimum use E5 + booster (NF or Lucas) Get it mapped. Speak to club traders, Davelagacy or Renno about getting booster and mapping,
Do a search of the forum,
Subject has been flogged to death on here!!!

gr8 car power comfort and style and with proper care will last forever just check the usual's and see if the timing belt has been done or when its due to b done check for any knockin sounds in the diff or grindin from the box if u havent picked 1 yet have a look a smurfs that car is 100% and has been amintained to the highest standard  :subaru:

@daveR - the way i understand it is you can use 95 + Booster but you would want to be taking it right handy with the car (ie dont be going anywhere near the red line) but sooner rather than later you would want to be getting it mapped for your own pease of mind at least.

its a pity yer down in the sticks ......ye could have a good butchers and a drive of my one. ye just dont have enough time to look at a car propperly when your viewing it on a forcourt. im sure any of the lads would give ye a butchers once ye dont turn up with 15 of yer mates with bats :nana:

aimed at you, its a pity yer not a bit closer to dublin cause ye could have checked out my yoke and maybe takin it for a spin to see what you think of them, my car is standard and only has an exhaust done so it would be a good example of a stock b4 in and a round the year your lookin for. and theres a few things i could shw you on a drive that a dealer wouldnt .........am i right in thinking your lookin to buy one?

jesus man thought ya wher a dealer i was at and givin me sh*t cause i told one of his b4s wasn tidy but wher bouts are ya man im headin up to dublin saturday again seen a nice one last week goin to take it for a spin this week hopefully but if ya have one that i might like ill be interested in drippoing by if i get the time

buy mine its an 01 but an 02 model so it has stronger engine and bigger turbos..already remapped safe on on e5..always treated well..full suspension set up..full leather ..4 pot brakes..sti exhaust..custom downpipes..remote start and turbo timer so always warmed up and cooled..she boost 1.2 bar on the first turbo so loads of low down torque you don't need to screw it to get it moving

yer completely missing the point......   mine is not for sale, i was making the point that you dont really get the feel of a car(in general) on a 3 minit test drive with a dealer. i was offering ye a chance to get a good look at one, and maybe ask a few questions but wasnt trying to flog it. sorry for the confusion was only trying to help

get ya know man ah no jesus i know what they are like to drive i just dont know much about them till recently fiend has a b4 as well only bought it 3 weeks ago but he hadn a clue about them so i just decided to ask around
