Hi all,
Its been a long time since ive posted on this but you are a knowledgeable bunch and im thinking about getting back into subaru.
I looked at a 05 legacy 2 litre estate today. Its fresh off the boat from japan with 130,000km and a grade 3.5 import. Im basically asking what would it be like as a daily, fuel wise and the notorious queston of remapping. I had a 01 B4 RSK and always worried it would go! Would this model be the same?
Im expecting a baby anyday now and in the market for a nice estate and this does fit the bill!

Any answers would greatly be appreciated !

Adrian dunne on here has a lovely 2005 one with rebuilt engine and turbo I'd say he would sell

Yes is short answer. As per any Subaru.

Oil pressure issues with this quad avcs system can happen. Turbo normally dies first.

But in saying that. Its like any car. Risk is always there.

From the hassle of bmw and vag diesels shite. It will still be more miles per smile then them

Im well aware there are risks associated with buying this. I am thinking of the smiles tho as much as i should go diesel. I just want to kind of get an idea what there like to live with or will it destroy my life completely !!

If it stays reliable you will love it but as it will be your family car it will turn into a pain in the hole if it goes wrong :icon_sad:. So there's no simple anser to your question . Buy one with service history and a rebuild already done takes a lot of the risk out of compared to 1 fresh off the boat then again there's nothing 100%

What about an ecu flash or remap? The only thing stopping me buying is just the worry of it going bang with the newborn and then im up sh*t creek! But i have that giddy feeling like a child ha. Lovely car and will be serviced etc before i buy it...

There's a lovley Irish Hawk Wrx wagon for sale here

If it were me I'd be looking at it

You can get it remapped alright, finding someone to remap it is the problem! Aonghus power in Galway, or Dave RSR gets someone over every so often that has experience with the twinscrolls. I had one for 8 years, great cars, but they are not very accepting for upping the power to much on stock engine, and problems with turbo failure can occur due to the oil feed banjo bolt filters disintegrating and get stuck in the oil control valves as Dave mentioned. If you want a reliable base car to play with go for an sti engine

How much is it going for OTR?
