150 bhp golf

ashscoob

Petrolheads
Went looking at a 150bhp golf today 03 reg.

just not sure if its genuine.

Any other ones I've looked at have had the TDI on the engine cover but on this one the TDI was just silver?

it has a six speed box
tweedy interior
mahogany insert around radio console & door handles
gti badge on back.
and is fair quick

Just looking for yer opinions?

get the engine code off the t.belt cover to be sure!!!
AFAIK there wont be any real differences in looks....
when i worked in VW....loads of them used to come in with the red tdi and gt tdi on the back but werent the real deal...
the six speed only came on the gt tdi model IIRC but open to comment !!!!
nice cars ash but eat clutches and flywheels!!!

just thinking bout a diesel for going to work!
scooby has me robbed! :subaru:

could the engine cover fade off?

yeah ,
the code can fade off alright but more than likely would have to be rubbed rather than naturally fade!!!
think most vw's are pretty economical though!!!
defo cheaper than a scooby

Don't wanna be ripped off though!
The only reason i'd be buying that one is coz its the 150 bhp!

Ash555: check inside the cover of the service book.there is a sticker with loads of numbers and data. the power output should be there at the top and is measured in KW not bhp. data sticker should also be on the boot floor on the left.

if thats not there pm me the chassis number WVWZZZ....... (17 digits in total) and i can tell you what power it is and what extras etc etc it came with.

by the way make sure the flywheel/clutch and turbo are ok. expensive to replace.

Will be getting 3 months warranty on it.

Meant to be seeing it again tomorrow will check there!

Thanks a mill!

As above!!!

May well be GTI, more than likely the GT TDI which are great cars.

Friend of mine has one and cannot fault although when purchasing last year was warned about the above....

Great on juice and good bit of poke too!! Good luck with it!!

The only real GT TDI were originally UK cars-thats the only market they were sold in-txt me the reg-ill tell you if UK or not

I had a UK Spec Ibiza TDI Sport (130BHP) which is the same engine and gear box as the 150 Golf..........
Absolutely joy of a car to drive and alot cheaper to buy.... was goin to remap it and was told to expect up to 170bhp with very little else done.....

400 - 500 miles out of a tank of Diesel... 45 euro filled it......

engine code should read asz or arl, clutch and flywheel is 860 retail and is a dual mass with no solid conversion available afaik
be warned they are quite expensive to run also
air mass meters,
timing belt kit are quite costly
cv joints are prone to failure
sumps, there way to low as standard believe it or not and crack sumps all the time
little finiky switches and sensors and window regs

just my experience of working with them,

she's still on english plates. in country for almost 2 years the owner of garage is driving it himself.

is there a difference in the diesel gti and the gttdi?

Will get the chassis # & reg later

Mate of mine had savage grief with a GT TDI , turbo went twice , fly wkeel needed doin and lots of other stuff , was a really nice looking car with one owner and low km's on it but never had a days piece with it ,

look in by spare wheel their is a sticker it gives bhp in kw
[/quote]

What he said

150bhp equals 110kw so look out for that sticker.

I'd just buy the standard model...you have a scoob for performance, the reason you are buying a tdi is for economy..as the power goes up with them the reliabilty takes a nose dive

I bought a GT TDI golf two years ago,
she has an exhaust system a K&N panel filter, and REVO Remapped to near 200 bhp and 300 lb/ft and she's lowered,
The engine code is ARL (=150bhp),
The 6 speed came on the 115bhp gttdi also so don't go by that!

I drive the heart and soul out of my golf all day every day, I have clocked up 40,000 KM on her since I bought her,
I changed the clutch once when I first got her,
I burst the sump once, my own stupid fault (hump backed bridge )
And I have had to replace a few intercooler pipe clips and rubbers on maybe 3 occasions (stupid design)

Other than the above, no problems at all, I love it,
She averages 40-45mpg as said with the throttle nailed to the floor, I have done 50+mpg driving normal with babies asleep in the car,
Serviceing is so easy with the oil filter right infront of you when you open the bonnet and rear brake caliper need to be twisted as you push them back for pad swap (that one had my head wrecked for ages)
The EPS Electronic Stability Program kicks ass, I love playing with it, ie. fire her into a wet round about, way to fast and big scandinavian flick, (just make sure you are pointing the steering wheel in the direction you want to go, and it's like the hand of god just stops the skid and sends you back on your way!
Great craic! and she's a pig to drive without it,with to much wheel spin and under steer!
Hope this helps! and you can have a shot of mine when you are over this neck of the woods for the trackday!
Dan
