Hi guys,

I've found this 2.0L RX on Car Zone - http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=621774 - it had an ISDC sticker - did it belong to anyone in the club - and does anyone know if there is anything wrong with the car...?? Looks to be in good shape - I've got him down on the price, as I'm paying cash - the rest I'll use to service, mod, etc the car.

Any reason why I should stay away...??

Thanks guys.

Steve.

Hey Guys,

Yea - but with limited funds at the moment - Rand to Euro is not great :( - I have to get something for now, and I don't want something with lots of KM's and one that is not TO old either. Banks are not keen to give out loans, as I've only been in the country just over 6 months - they very sticky about loans at this stage, even though I meet all the requirements to qualify - "I need to prove and build a good credit history", or so I'm told. But all my proof from South Africa doesn't seem to be enough for the banks over here. The Scooby's I've seen, and would love to own, are all a bit out of my price range for now - so my thinking is, get this 2.0L RX - and over the months, spend a bit of money mod'ing it - slap on a turbo, etc. In about a years time, I'll look at getting another Scooby (WRX Sti), which I'll use, and the RX will become a Scooby for my wife to drive. That way - we both happy.

In the mean time, I'll be driving a Scooby :D , and I'll save up, and have a nice deposit to put down on the new Scooby I buy.

That is the plan for now - rather than jumping the gun - I'm planning for a year - a nice Christmas gift from me, to me. :D

Yes / No ? ? ?

Steve.

again thats a turbo, why would you go through all the hassle if adding a turbo to a std 2.0rx :ponder:rather save good money and buy a turbo then... :dunno:

Yea - I've made you all as confused as I am then...??

The first one I found, non turbo, is something I could get now, as I need a car - don't have a car as yet - and it's a Scooby - and I can get it for way less than the shown price. Then after reading the repies, I did some more looking about, and found this STi. For 5k more - I could get the STi - and now I'm thinking, 5k worth of mods to a 2L RX vs Standard STi. I'd be silly not to go for the latter Scooby STi.

The more I think about it - the more confused I get. :D :dunno:

Can someone just give me one...??

Scoobyke - going to speak to your mate tomorrow about his 97 Rex.

Quick question - who do you guys get your insurance through...?? These insurance companies should wear masks when they rob you like this - and I thought I left Jo'burg to get away from all that. :D Does Subaru, or someone who understands Subaru drivers, offer insurance...?? I've also got 7 yrs no claims bonus - does this count for anything...?? Just wondering, as I've been quote anything between 2k - 3k a year.

Any suggestions...??

A few of us r with quinn direct, but they can b a bit of a nightmare to deal with because to be honest i have no idea what system they work from ive heard storys of them turning down people like ur self but then turning around and insuring people like me who have 0 years claims bonus and not long passed there license.

I heard Quinn Direct are the biggest sharks - and to stay well away. Some told me to try FBD and Hibernian - will be phoning for quotes tomorrow, for a non turbo, WRX and STi - see how much I'm going to be in for. I'm 31, 7yrs no claims bonus - and I have 2 Advanced Drivers Courses - BMW and Subaru. Does any insurance company take this into account...?? I know in SA, I was paying R400 (€55) a month for insurance on my 03 WRX. Can you imagine paying that here.

My quest starts tomorrow....as today is a nice day off.

i chose the 2.0 RX as it was a good deal cheaper, and cheaper to insure too. i'd say it would be hard to come from driving a WRX to go back to a non-turbo though. i found the best bet for insurance was quinn direct, it's under a grand for me, 26, 1 year NCB, full licence. maybe try some of the insurance brokers around too.

Hey Guys,

The 2.0L RX is the best bet for now. I've got the price down by over 1.5k, the insurance is cheaper - and I haven't had a car now for 8 months. :eek:mg: So, this 2.0L might not remind me of the fast old days - but the way I see it, I'll be driving a Scooby - my heart wouldn't want to get into anything else. And then give it a year or so to save up a nice deposit for something awesome. :subaru:

Looking forward to a meet in Dublin - maybe even a weekend trip to the South, or West, or North - a little breakfast run. I miss the breakfast runs from Jo'Burg to Harties Dam early on a Sunday morning - 20 to 30 Subaru's making their way through the twist and turns - every head on every shoulder getting cramp looking on as we all drive past.

Sometimes I think I'm to passionate about Subaru - NEVER. :headbanger:

Cheers.

i'd advise wait couple months more if your from turbo backround........ and if you exclude Quinn Direct and hibernian and FBD your only left with the mafia or something..

Can't wait - need a car now, 8 months without is already to long, and we've moved offices. Just impossible by bus now. In the long run, the car I get now is going to land up being the wifes anyway - and I wouldn't want her running around with a turbo - seeing as she is used to a 1.4 C2 VTR Citroen. :D So I think the RX will do her just fine.

I'm going to speak to Hibernian, FBD and 123.ie (Thx Scoobyke) - see who comes back with the best deal.

Guys - thanks for all the help in this - much appreciated. Being new to a country - it's like learning all over again.
