2.5 sti remap

A guy interested in buying my car (08 2.5 sti hatch) asked me had I got it remapped by subaru. I didn't know and checked. So it was remapped in January 2010. Apparently without the remap the engine revs too much and can cause it to overheat. Not sure if this would fully explain issues with 2.5 engines but it surely another contributory factor. Something to look out for if you're ever thinking of getting a hatch.

Fuel and poor oil, mods, inappropriate remap all more likely candidates in my view.

Issues run deeper than just the map .

Poor pistons that were prone to cracking around the Ringland. And headstuds stretching under boost and showing symptoms of hg failure . Started before the hatch model 2 . Hawks are known to have suffered also but agree fully with poor maintenance questionable mods and poor maps all would help the issue to become evident . My own hawk showed symptoms under spirited driving for prolonged periods of time but only happened a few times (car was standard at the time ) but replacement of headgaskets headstuds and pistons have so far proven to be a good investment. There is 2 many threads on subaru forums worldwide about the 2.5 for their not to be an element of fact surrounding the issues . But there can be no doubt that a 2.5 is a fantastic motor when done right . I'd have no problem buying another 2.5 and would replace the bits listed above no problem for piece of mind even if no problems were evident .

I have been tipping away at the mileage on mine it's got to be serviced at 7000 k on the button by Subaru or better .only mod is piper cross air filter and single exhaust fitted .Had the Subaru factory remap done too like yours and it's going great been used every day .its like a Land Rover got to be serviced properly...iam not comparing Subaru with land rover ha ha
