This Is The New Subaru Impreza

Subaru has revealed its new Impreza ahead of the New York Auto Show. It's underpinned by the company's new 'Global Platform', and a WRX STI will join the ranks soon

Here it is, the next generation of Subaru Impreza. Details are still rather scarce (the full reveal will happen later today), but we do know it’ll be powered by a range of four-cylinder boxer engines, and a five-door hatchback version will be available in addition to the saloon you see here. It’ll be the hatchback that we receive in the UK (although it’s only “under consideration” at the moment), as the saloon won’t be coming to Europe.

It’s all underpinned by Subaru’s new Global Platform architecture, which will eventually be used on every car in the company’s range and makes this Impreza 70 per cent stiffer than the old one. The new car is - of course - all-wheel drive, and a hot WRX STI will join the ranks at some stage.

Sad this sedan wont make it into EU at all, only 'hatch' which will probably be 'competing' with Levorg...

I wonder what engine this NA impreza gets, would be really nice, if it had the same/improved engine as BRZ making 200hp without boost.

Or, 1.6 with 170hp would be nice also for our strict emission laws.

Shame is right it won't be in Europe i don't like the new boxer type imprezas old is better imo????????????

I think that base model is much nicer than the current gen. The rear lines are much better it seems less bloated in the back. Would be interested how mad they decide to go with the STi styling. Hopefully we don't get a type r ridiculous kit thrown at it from a distance.

do you remember what Subaru owners were saying the first time newage was announced and released? And then the same thing happened with 08+ years. Every time Subaru announces and shows new car, about 60% of subaru community is like 'thats sooo ugly' 10 years later, they are 'oh those ones were looking good' :D

Same 1st impression: Volvo front. don't like it. they don't even make nice prototypes anymore.

It's not an ugly car .

It's just anonymous.

And it's not as ugly as current impreza or xv . Seen a 13 leggy today and they are not ageing well .

Could be savage Dave

Might not be a bad thing

Imagine the 2.0 twinscroll or the new 2.0 fj boosted with a 100 hp electric motor that delevers all its toqure instantly plus will dramatically cut emissions
Imagine getting into your Sti starting it in silence and cruising out in stealth mode????

Could be great like a cut price 918

But doublfull it will be awd as petrol motor usually powers rear and electricity powering front only when power loss detected.

Time will tell but unlikely we will ever see one here rip Wrx&sti????

Agree with Tommy here, its not an ugly car... its just average gray car, designed not to stand out... unlike newages, which had the aura and presence around them. I am however not worried, there will be tons of aftermarket options, that will allow us to make them look better.. if we ever get them here in ireland... which is very unlikely...

Obviously hybrid means weight issues = handling impact

However... the biggest deterrent to having more of them on the Irish roads (which we have all highlighted here) is the mental emissions. Hybrid is one way of bringing these down so that normal folks can afford to buy and run one in Ireland with punitive CO2 based VRT and roadtax system.

Obviously, going by the article, it would have an impact on tuning potential. You could still tune the 2L, but that only gives you power at the front and hence will negatively impact the traction / handling (understeer) as the rear will be electric and currently that means "fixed" power.

Would be nicer if both power sources were linked and drove all four wheels... Slap a big turbo on the 2L and fill the resulting Lag hole with electric torque goodness and presto... a car that is fast from idle till the redline! (I see the potential of that alright) :049:

Its awful how Subaru have ruined the iconic impreza aggressive look even with their s207 I think its missing the aggression. That new impreza looks very like an i40

Funny thing is they were never at the cutting edge of design or looks but looked purposefull and everyone knew an impreza when they seen one . The hatch even looks good now and how many of us said it's not a proper impreza . Subaru even decided that for the newest generation as it's not even badged as an impreza.

Ford had a dry spell after the Sierra cosworth and escort cosworth as regards desireable sports cars imo and only have gotten going again with the mk2 focus rs and fiesta st .

Hopefully subaru can make a return and come up with some top class performance machines
