3500 miles Euro road trip with my STi and amazing memories! (2024)

Hi all, back to Ireland yesterday after an amazing road trip to Portugal and back.

Total miles driven: 3527
Fuel tanks: approximately 18 (assuming an average of 200 miles per tank). 98 was nicely priced in Spain at usually €1,75, but in France you could pay up to €2,20.
98 Octane is a must (a bit pathetic that we don't have it as an option in Ireland)

Was going to use our other family car, but I'm glad I took the STi...it's just a more exciting car, puts a smile on my face and plenty of other people as well.

As posted in a separate thread, the only issue throughout the entire trip was a check engine light due to Catalytic converter (P0420), which still allowed me to keep going. Had to take it 2x to a local mechanic and got it fixed for €230. I was as a bit hesitant/paranoid on the way back, but the STi was a trooper and didn't let us down despite its age, load being carried and extreme heat 35C+ at this time of the year in continental Europe.

Managed to see so many beautiful places, make great memories with my family and stop wherever we felt like, which is the beauty of road trips!

Though I'd share some photos.

Wowza! That is truly the way to make memories. Love it! Stunning pictures and great to hear all made it safely home with only a minor issue 😊

Epic skipper, great roatrip and memories as you said.

i have brought my old scooby across Europe also and will do the same next year with the new one please god.

Great to see there are others out there still doing this. Great smiles per miles👍👏

Fair fecks for doing that. I'm off to France end of Sept and half debating bringing the Foz. Your photos are swaying me over the half way mark, I'd just be wary if anything happened, it's hard enough to find someone to work on it here at home. On the other hand the aircon works in the foz and not in the diesel lump so.... Maybe.

Do it do it🤣

I am very very tempted I have to say. Classic insurance policy is a balls though, I'm covered (I checked) but I'd eat through most of my year's mileage allowance in the 2 weeks I'd say.

You can buy more mileage if needed with most companies..? Could be an option..

Great trip 👍👍 done a good bit of driving in France in family hoildays in Subarus wouldn’t see too many on the roads over there 👍👍
