Advice on BMW 520/525d

Hi guys. I don't be on here too much lately but I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice with regards buying BMW, specifically a 520d or 525d. Its 09/10 model that I am looking at. From looking around online I've seen that the timing chain can give hassle, anyone with any info on this? I have also been told manual gearboxes can give trouble. Apart from that is there anything in particular that should be looked out for on them? Good buy/bad buy?
 
Parking sensors front and rear give bother along their ecu which isn't cheap
Timing chains on the 520d snap without notice which I'm told is engine out job and around 500stg in bits if your fixing it yourself
Both have gone on the bro in laws 08 one
Lovely looking car but he says never again
But yes I would buy one
 
E60 530d msport with the tax the way it is, that's my plan for January anyway, hopefully works out :pray: .. Not a huge amount of them about though :icon_sad:

Spoke to Ciaran one night for hours about that modern car options and the pro's and con's of each and there's nothing out there that doesn't cause trouble these days, but he did advise to stay away from the 520D and wasn't overly keen on the 525d either.

What's the budget Mark? Fella in work, his dad may be getting rid of a 08 520D if you end up still keen on one, low mileage msport, white with a fair few add-ons.
 
Depending on the car, I can go to about 25k bit more if necessary. Does the 08 come under the new tax band do you know Robbie?

I have an 09 520d m sport and this is my 3rd one and I have never put a spanner to it other than servicing it or either of the other 2 there a lovely car and I wouldn't have anything else my bus will be up for sale shortly now bying a 2012 f10 model next see if they are as good
