And you thought our fuel was expensive?

Octane Boostaholics
I was just reading through the regulations for Rally Ireland at the weekend, nothing better to do with the blazing hangover I had!
Anyway got to the part about fuel, FIA is the only approved supplier of fuel to the WRC competitors and they sell at 5.39e per litre - At lease we get a gallon of fuel for that price! What sort of octane is that stuff?

ya, but if you drive conservatively you could prob get 5-6 mpg from a WRC car :D

About the same as what I get then!

Out of curiousity why is it necessary to run 114 octane fuel when the car is limited to 300bhp, is it to improve the torque figures?

the peak out put is limited to 300bhp but they make nearly 900ftlb of torque at 1000 rpm or something..torque actually goes down as the revs rise..not sure about 114 octane but they may use less

if you put that in your road car would it do it any harm
[/quote]

To your wallet it would

im pretty sure its 109, it doesn't actually say on the barrels, well on the Elf or Shell barrels anyway

lol

btw the engine is far more responsive with the higher octane fuel

433lbft torque @ 4000RPM
300BHP @ 5500RPM

but the 300hp is available at 3000rpm at that stage its producing 550lbft or something..so one told me 900 but i worked it out and thats to high

the power can very depending on the anti-lag stages theyre using of the line, i dont know the figures

give it another couple of years and we could all be payin that for petrol. :D

109 is correct.

they have a 112 but they use 109.for some reason it works better..
