And i dont mean nose pickers :D

Im trying to do my garden but its full of clay and stone. It cracks in the sun and doesnt absorb water well.

Im trying to get grass to grow on it. Its 36 x 16 feet long and wide.

Any advise on what to do with it?

Cheers Lee

you need some nutrients and fertiliser. And not that shite from woodies. I've got some proper stuff somewhere there from my time as a greenkeeper. you'll be cutting the grass nearly twice a week then. Its either in the shed or i loaned it to my auntie. I'll try and get it and i can give you some at the dublin night meet this month if you want. You'll need to loosen up the clay as fine as you can and mix in some peat as well to give it the best chance. Then keep it well watered

Yeah sure thanks, it needs all thehelp it can get. It was a building site a few months ago. But i was lookin on google earth the other night and even before the builders moved in, there wasnt any grass here.

Do you have any grass at all? If its that bad, then you'll probably need a good top soil before anything will grow.

Yup its thats bad, its full of stone. All the gardens around me are the same. Was talking to some guy about it whos from here (Balbriggan) he said to rotavate it, but some gravel type stuff and aload of peat moss on it rake and rotavate it again and then stick 1 to 2 ton of top soil on it.

Ye sounds about right, there are plenty of agricultural places around the area, few in the Naul. You might be able to get top soil out of a golf club. There is a place in the Naul and they are the crowd that look after Croke park and Landsdowne Road (when it was there). If any1 would know they would

Shure youd never know someone on here might be able to find you a few ton of topsoil.

Youd nearky fit my lawn in the boot.So if i dug up the 19 other houses you could have a little grass decking just outside the back door

To save all the hassle.

Tin white paint few sticks and you could hake a mini football pitch.

Thanks for the tips lads I just bought a gaff not to far from you Wetpatch (Balrodery)

with a monster back garden that needs a bit of work so i think il give it a go

depending on the soil....ie the ammount of it ied dig the garden with a fork and rake and remove as much stone as possible. then mix sand in with the soil and level it off at the same time as compacting it. this will help with the dranage of surface water. in a house recently in balbriggan doin a bit of deckin for a mate and the quallity of the soil was piss poor.the lad i was helpin tried to use a rotorvator on part of the garden and was as usefull as a choclate firegaurd. i advised him to shutter off the garden where he wants his lawn with 16 foot lenghts of deckin board on their edge and bring in topsoil to that level or close to it, cause it would take too long to dig up and filter the soil that is there.
