Cheers dude..my eyeslit up when I read "rust free". I've been lookin for a while now and they've all been sh1te! :icon_cry: Even spent 4 hours on a bus to Donegal to look at one that was supposedly mint and when I got there I was nearly done for murder it was that bad with rust and leaks :angry1:

Yeah very very prone to rust but hers was completely rust free!!

Bought it fro uk from enthusiast and dropped another engine in her so it was a minter!!

Anyone that came to look wanted it and at the end there was bit of a price war and she made

more than she expected to make!!

Have you tried on uk sites atal??

I know how you feel Rob, I drove 4 hours to West Cork 3 years ago to look at a '00 Type RA that was described as immaculate. The head gasket was gone, seats were stained in a few places & worst of all there were a set of forestry style knobbly tyres on it so God knows what abuse she'd taken :angry1:

I haven't tried outside Ireland yet...if I can view close to home before buying I'd be happier.

Tell me about it Brian...the Mini had a hole in the door sill, oil leaking from somewhere or everywhere, water under the carpet on the p/s, big dent in the boot lid, a hole in the battery box, and a hole in the boot. Not to mention the lovely walnut dash held in with two velcro strips, the temp guage not working and all the wiring down around the pedals...I was sick when I got there! I was expecting a lovely drive home in a mini instead had to get back on the bus!! Oh and the passenger door had dropped on the hinge....more like the door had rusted through where the hinge attached so it was the lock holding the door on!!
The girl had told me that there was "a little bit" of rust on the underside...irony is the underside was perfect, pity about the rest of the car!!

Ah I'll soldier on in the search, but I wanna try keep close to Dublin..or at least keep to the "Pale"!

What you looking to spend Rob?

Maybe €3,000 to €4,000 if I can get the right one. But the less I have to spend the better, ya know how it is and it is a buyers market at the moment! I've always loved them but have always been worried about the fact that they rust quicker butter melts on toast. But if I could get an immaculate one and get a few years out of it before having to worry about new panels etc. I'd be happy out  The parts are available and are cheap as as chips but I wanna enjoy it for a while before having to go down that road.
I saw the ones in Jap Extreme Cars advertised on carzone. Wee bit on the expensive side for me... :icon_sad:

I'm waiting to hear back about this one but its only a 1L. I love the interior though!! :icon_biggrin: Perfect for track!! :049: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mini/Cooper/1/200840190228863/advert?channel=CARS

This is the one I viewed...
http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=110953&cat=all

Was getting it for €1800...and when I saw the state of it she offered it to me for €1500 but still wasn't worth it! The pics are from when it was bought by her a good while ago but the Northwest did it no favours!

There's probloms with the ECU on Jap ones... beware!

I'd a few of the years... one particularly clean one that I bought when it was 12 years old that had 13k miles on it.... it was the mintest mini I've ever seen.... and it rotted with in 2 years even though I regularly wax oiled it and undersealed it! They just don't last on our roads!

3-4 will buy you one that's proabably had bodywork done on it before... but be wary of quality of work! I love minis... but I'd only buy one as a weekend toy as ones driven as daily drivers just rot so quickly!

Good luck with the search!

Had 2 minis when i was about 14 ,

a 1275 gt clubman and a 1000 city , great cars , used to drive em in the forestry near my house

Clubman was a little rocket , bounced like feck over the forestry lanes

I think if i had a garage at the moment I'd get an oul mini and restore it, when i say restore it i actually mean build it up as a little track car.... tune the balls outta the little 1275 engine and see what i could get out of it.......

Just push it to its limit!!!

Exactly what I'd do... always wanted a Mk 1 with a 1380! :icon_headbang: Greatest track cars ever... nothing handles like a mini!
