BATTERY QUESTIONS - HELP QUICK

Petrolheads
Gentlemen,

I am collecting my B4 from Dublin Port tomorrow. I know she will need a can of fuel (as the tanks will be dry). She will also need a battery.
Any advice on
1. what type,
2. where to get it (i'm driving from swords to the port so ideally sowhere in that area)
3. how much (i was quoted 110 euros today WTF - i would expect to pay c.75?)
4. any likely problems with fitting (i've never been under the hood of a b4 before.

Kevin

go to halfords they will sort ya out with a battery.

cheapest around when i was getting one a while ago.

Maxol E5 and Could you not just jump the batt thats in it?

Hi Kevin. Whenever i was collecting a car from the port i never brought a new battery with me. Just a battery charger pack thing! ( SOMEONE WILL KNOW WHAT I MEAN) and that done the trick. As the others said make sure its E5. Best petrol going for our cars!  :subaru:

I also brought some de-ionised water (battery water) incase it had dried up!

The best tip anybody on here can give u when ur picking up a car from the docks is to bring a Gear Stick Nob..... lol

Also the guy in the docks has a jump pack on stand-bye, he brought it over when i collected the keys thinking i would need a jump.

yeah i know, i can get started down there but i have to stop for fuel and again at the vro?
can i risk it? dont want to be stuck somewhere with no jump around?

I dont think you can drive the vehicle away from the docks if its not registered.

The last time i was collecting a car, we were expecting 6 and we drove the 6 of them out of the docks to swords. I dont think its ment to be done but they will let you out and then its all at your own risk with Gardai etc.

I guess they cant stop you but its at your own risk I guess. Bad enough having no tax and insurance but no reg plate is a big no no with the garda.

IMO you'd be better off with a flatbed of some sorts. Thinking back at it, it was stupid to do what we done but i wasn't thinking about that at the time. All i was thinking about was my new car!! Was like a big child.

My thoughts exactly. Not worth the risk.

I was going to say go on drive her home!! BUT the garda are really going mad on check points on the lead up to the 1st july vrt change,,
I went through 2 check points today both checking discs and plates, Beforew this, It was about 3years since I went through a checkpoint,
Get her brought home on a lorry,

Gentlemen\ (this is only an opinon 0f and not necessariliy the actual law)

i understand that the law requires you to register an imported car by the close of business the day after it is released from customs.
you are in breach of hte vehicule registration regulations if you have not paid your vrt at this point and obtained an irish plate.
as happens to alot of polish guys - you can have your car seized.

you cant tax a car or nct it until you register it - so there is no offence there - the gards dont expect people friving a uk imprt across the border to have these in place straight away

that just leaves insurance which i have already in place.

Although the car has been deregistered in japan - i will put cardboard plates on with the jap rego for identificcation purposes.
its 20min drive to the vro from the port - and the gards really only hate nackers/scumbags.
soi dont expect a problem.

He who dares wins....

Here's the relevant piece of statute

http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1992/en/si/0318.html#zzsi318y1992

8 (1) VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND TAXATION REGULATIONS, 1992
A person not being an authorised person who manufactures or brings into the State a vehicle which is not exempt from registration under section 135 of the Act, shall bring the vehicle to a registration office and make a declaration under section 131 of the Act in relation to the vehicle not later than the next working day after its manufacture or arrival in the State or, in the case of a vehicle which requires the making of a customs entry on arrival in the State, not later than the next working day after its release from customs control.

It doesnt say how you get it there or specify on a truck anywhere in the regs!! If anyone knows this not be a sound interpretation let me know
