M spec have S engine codes just to confuse things standard engines codes begin with M..the e39 m5 engine is an S62 based on the M62(4.9) from the 540I which is the same 4.4V8 in this X5

As above. The e39 M5 base engine is derived from the 4.4 litre V8 that was found in e39/e38/x5 models.
Obviously M Sport division works its magic boring out to 4.9 v8

i had one of these for a year, and loved every miute of it!
big, super comfy and with all the toys is a very happy place to be, especially on long journeys!

mine had the big wide screen TV and sat nav, with screens in the back with teletext etc etc

although the 2002 4.4 is 286bhp and 324 Ft Ibs of torque, not 315bhp.

good luck with the sale.
its unbelievable how much these have dropped as i sold mine in Feb 2008 for 27k :icon_omg:

it is 315 with 444nm of torque it has the uprated manifold and 04 ecu
[/quote]

ummm, never heard of that upgrade tbh.
good figures, puts it very close to the 4.6is with 346bhp!

just to give an idea, my one with the standard 286bhp was just as quick on the road as my 210bhp Integra Type R, so there very capable machines.

best of luck with the sale, maybe try post some pics, should help.
