Looking for a breaker bar, a torq wrench and heavy duty axle stands for my new year project

If anyone knows of any for good money?

halfords do decent enough axel stands, 3 tonne ones are better. and you can borrow my breaker bar for a while if you want, one of things you buy and rarely use!

Gar bandit might be the man to talk to there Robbie , was asking him about tools at the rolling road day and his knowledge and prices were spot on !

Agree with Dan on the axel stands , halfords ones look good !

have a mixture of teng and draper stuff myself , bit dearer than the halfords tools but quality is there , and i havent broke any of mine yet , which is unusual :049:

Try fairyhouse markets for axle stands... O bought the heavy duty tall ones there for feck all money. Buy Teng if you can afford it... Worth the extra few quid.

Thanks lads, I have 4 halfords axle stands already but want to get better, bigger ones so I can get the car up a little higher

Thanks for the offer Dan but I want to buy my own one, I'll be the same as yourself using it rarely but I'll need it on and off for a couple of months at least

Going to go to fairyhouse next Sunday Jamie, just thought I'd check here first in case anyone had ones they were looking to get rid of

Gar might see this later but I assumed snap on stuff would be out of budget. Might be worthwhile checking anyway

if your buying socket sets and tools that your going to be using regularly robbie its worth spending the extra few euros .snap on is probably the best money can buy but over priced imho most of my stuff is king tony but snap on or teng would be very good also :thumbs up:

you'll do well to get a snap on breaker bar for under 200 notes...
lots of draper stuff can be got on ebay...nice socket sets with cheap delivery

Ye, kinda thought thats what you'd be lookin at for snap on stuff alright. Was looking on ebay and amazon too. Draper and Sealey seem to be the most widely available.

The stuff will only be for occasional use really, want tothis little tidy up project on the Impreza but other than that, they would only be rarely used.

Cheers Colm, that stuff seems like good value. Want to get a car creeper now as well. Any idea what the quality is like, do you use them in work?

I'd avoid the ratchet type of axle stand and instead go for some non collapseable ones with a heavy duty pin for adjusting height. I've had the ratchet type fail on me... Scary experience and a lucky escape.

I need bigger axle stands, similar in size to your ones Jamie, to get the car into the air. Those ratchet type and the halfords ones i already have only put the car about a maximum of 600mm (only 2ft) in the air which doesn't leave a lot of working room once I'm under the car and on a creeper.

They're your best bet fella... You saw how much higher my own will go and I currently have them at a comfortable height for working underneath it.

@ Marko... It all depends how wide the base/legs are. I've had my own car up to 800mm off the ground with no bother or stabilty issues on the stands.. There for working on a 4x4 and ate big bastards... It's what I'd recommend Robbie gets if the car is up the air for a while.

no i just seen an add for that place on donedeal
actually not in work until tomorrow it turns out
we have a guy who calls around selling tools not sure what he sells
ill find out

I get all my Teng stuff from HLS in Ashbourne industrial estate. He won't have everything your after, but for wrenches and socket sets I've always found him to be cheaper than most other places.

It's a while since I've had to buy anything from him but I doubt his pricing has changed that much.

Robbie sorry only seen this now I have snap on 1/2 inch breaker bars for well under €200 euro I'll give you one for €120 with full lifetime warranty, 1/2 inch torque wrench ur looking at about €300, I can get 5tone stands for around €70 but there for light commercials so you might not have a jack that will lift high enough to put them under the car, if I'm any help call me on 0872465918

Cheers gar, what length is the breaker bar?

Is that 2 or 4 5tonne stands for €70? I can hopefully borrow a jack big enough to get the car in the air, mate has one down the road. Thats my plan anyway
