Car is standard 2l n/a from a garge with good service history just seemed a bit dead I have a 1.6 bug so was expecting a bit more go

Think n/a 2.0 160/170 bhp

Go for a Turbo if you want power ????

Had a 2.0 na hawk for 4 years .

To be honest 5th gear acceleration won't set your tyres on fire .

Big difference between 1.6 and 2.0 . Much better for overtaking and mpg. But not the most powerfully 2.0 engine ever made and impreza is heavy with 4wd.

Biggest thing to look for seems to be if the secondary air pump has been done or is it acting up . Big money to fix if not under guarantee .

Heard from the 2.0 Na lads they have a good bit more Toqure than a 1.6 so should feel a good bit quicker low down

The hawk is a very heavy car. It can hold its own. I find that it has balls more torque than the 1.5. 4/5th are purely for cruising on a motorway. Unfortunately they come in the 2.5L for the turbo if you want more power. Jap imports come in the 2L turbo. Don't be afraid to give her beans going through the gears, it does have a nice grunt with the right exhaust.

Think I might go on a longer test run net time maybe a good service will do the trick as I found out with my own 1.6 was like a different car after service and belts where done

You really have to drive it hard to get anything out of it to be honest having had a good few 2.0

Do a bit of hard driving to really see if you think the upgrade is worth it. As Tommy said, check out to see if the secondary air pump has been done.

I remember seeing a post about mpg on them and it wasn't to far off the turbo just because you have to drive the hole off them
