Curious to know about best car insurance company's for the likes of modified or powerful cars, I know age doesn't help as I haven't hit the magical 25 years old yet but besides that what can you guys recommend for insuring cars such msports, imprezas or high liter diesels etc?

The problem is There?s no Set rules you could ring up a company and get a quote of 900 I could ring 5 min later with nearly the same details and they can sorry we done quote that car or model . There?s too many variables . Best advice I can give is ring around try them all as yo be honest it?s s lottery

I'm with First ireland.
I found them the best overall.
No matter who you are with, expect to pay around 2 grand to insure a turbo impreza and possibly more for an sti.
Im 35 and was giving 1800 to the bastards for an 03 sti

I wouldn't mind but no one will even give me a stupid price they'd just so say no so I'm curious to see what the story is, e.g liberty insurance said I've to be 30 to be insured on my se BMW 320d ? Ridiculous stuff

Ya I know its a pure joke alright especially if You're under 30

Insure a 1litre or the likes then after a month or so transfer policy to your desired car

I was told many times by insurance company's I had to be over 25 or 30 to cover certain cars a few years ago.
I took the gamble a few times, bought car first ,rang insurance & transferred my policy onto new car .
They didn't like it but had to cover me .

This is how I've insured my "high performance" cars since I was 20.

Key thing is to tell them you've a new car and want to transfer insurance, not to go looking for a quote.
You could also just pretend you've bought the car, ring to transfer, and when they give you price for new premium, just say it's a little tlittle much and you'll call them back. Never tried this so not sure how it would work doing it over time or multiple times.

I bought a 3.2 Audi sportback in my early 20s , rang insurance to transfer policy they said I had to be over 30 to cover car . I told them I was sitting in the car and had just bought it and had to get it home . After a few minutes they said they would cover car for that weekend and call me back on the Monday . Got that call on the Monday ,had to pay 2 or 300 Euro to transfer policy and that was going from a 1.9tdi to the 3.2 Quattro ????

Yes thought of this too but will they eventually cap it ? And is there much in the price difference ? Thanks

As the lads said its a lottery I was driving a 320d with liberty at 21 for a cheaper price than a corolla :cuckoo: I'm fairly sure with liberty WRX and STIs are under the same bracket as when looking for quotes on my old wrx it was coming up as sti on their system

Not so much sti's for the time being but even something as harmless as a 530d or along those lines but yeah very awkward indeed

That's seems v expensive , if you have female friend who drives I'd stick her on your policy . I found that always cheapened up my insurance

I've a 05 2.5 XTEn which is insured with Allianz. I'm 46, only 4 years NCB (had company car until 4 years ago so had to start my NCB from scratch). Allianz give a decent discount if you have a tax saver travel ticket. Excess is ?250 and wife is also on the policy. Annual premium, fully comp, is ?753. Was the cheapest I found anywhere - because of the tax saver travel ticket. Closest quote to that was over ?1k. I've a few extras added on to the policy too.
