REDS DUO FIT TO FACE UNITED
SKY Sports 12 September 2008
Liverpool have been handed a double boost with the news that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have been passed fit to face Manchester United.
Spanish ace Torres has recovered from the hamstring strain he picked up in the goalless draw at Aston Villa, while Gerrard is back to fitness after groin surgery.
Gerrard appeared to rule himself out of the Anfield showdown by claiming earlier this week he was unlikely to be fit, however the Reds skipper could now be in line for a shock return.
The pair came through a light training session on Friday morning and they have been included in the squad to face Sir Alex Ferguson's Premier League and European champions.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez admits he is not surprised both players have been passed fit to play.
"They are both much better," Benitez told the club's official website.
"They came through a full training session this morning. It wasn't a very hard session, but they will both be in the squad.
"It's important for us to have these two players of quality who can change a game.
"I'm not surprised they are available because the medical staff have done a good job and the players have been working really hard with the physios to get fit."
