Looking at getting a new system, don't require a monitor as I have too many tv's sitting at home so will use one of them... I do intend gaming on it so needs to be a good spec machine.

Looking at a Dell XPS machine here: http://www1.euro.dell.com/ie/en/hom...efid=studio-xps-8100&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1&ref=dthp

Second one is probably looking most likely but is there much to gain over the cheaper model or much to be lost compared to the dearer model?

Looking at one on the Marx website, PC Core 2 Quad Q9400: http://www.marxcomputers.ie/

Any advice or recommendations welcome... Anywhere better to buy?

build it yourself
www.mplex.com

i always get my parts from these lads cause i used to work there!!!!
normally works out a good bit cheaper for top spec systems

Wouldn't usually recommend dell..building your own pc is fine but if your not that PC savy your better off with dell support

You can build yourself a really good PC - buy the parts and put it together - spend losts of time researching the market for prices, parts etc etc but in the end if something goes wrong (and it will) you'll have to deal with lots of different vendors. That's where Dell win hand over fist - in their support - their machines aren't any better than anyone elses but their support is. Another point to make Dell get their machine parts specially made so they can't easily be moved to a differnt case or system but that's for later upgrading. I run a network of over 100 machines - all Dell because of their support. They aren't really any cheaper than anyone else when you've done all the add-ons etc.

I might build my own alright, if the sums add up...

What other options are out there other than Dell to buy?

thanks for the advice, I could go Dell and get warranty and support which is really appealing.. and i don't mind paying a little extra for it. What do yuo think of the machines above?

Even if you buy all your parts to build your computer you still have warranty on them, at least a year. And if you need a hand putting it together give me a bell. Also you'll have me for support, I'm not that expensive

@ hiwd - Even if you buy all your parts to build your computer you still have warranty on them, at least a year.

That's completely true - my only point would be that its a lot of hassle if one component fails or starts to fail - gets even more awkward when you order online esp through UK companies trying to return stuff etc..
It's far more rewarding to build your own but there are pitfalls... thats all -
I just build a type of home theatre PC but had to return a few DOA parts and it took weeks to get them replaced...

I suppose it all depends on how confident you are - personally I am happy to rip a computer apart and rebuild it - but I wouldn't do that to a car!!!
Having said that - if I can help I will...!!! and I WILL rob your p0rn

.If Steve is going to build the PC for you and support it ..my business would definitely go to him(no offence FozzieSTB )
