Middle Lane Hogs
hi, does anyone know the easiest way of removing decals on the bodywork of a car, been putting taking these of for 8 months now but i have holidays next week so better get it done then. the main two decals are about 8" in height and 1 foot long, can i get input on this from anybody who has tried removing these cursed things, thanks

heater gun or boiling water, then a small bit of petrol to take the sticky bits off that are left on the car

I used lighter fuel to ease off the tackiness and a hairdryer to gently heat the decals so they peel off easily and Robert's your mother's brother

not if you wipe it off straight away (along with the sticky sh*t)

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but i have a small Impreza lx sticker practically moulded onto my boot, would you use the same methods to get it off since its a different type of sticker than a decal?

oh and no naked flames near that stuff you know!! :D

Hello Jackswagon,

Another way to remove stickers is with a wallpaper steamer. I'm not kidding they use it in most signwriting places to remove stickers. You just have to watch out for marking the paint with the steamer head. Most new steamers have plastic heads, so they will not damage the car.

As the lads said, use petrol to get the residue off. You can also use a painters product called panel wipe. You can get it in an autofactors who sells paint. It is mild degreaser used for paint preparation and is not agressive towards paint.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Michael
PS Wash the car well before you take the stickers off, to stop dirt mixing with the residue. Wash again when finished to get rid of the petrol / panel wipe and give it a good wax / polish to protect the paint

thats a great idea michael, i have a wallpaper steamer somewhere in the attic, it sounds like it will do the job with ease, cheers again lad

I had the same on my first 1.6 Dan. I actually just peeled it straight off, get a decent start on it and it lifts up ok

the steamer is the way to go did a whole van in a couple of hours wiped it down with some paint thinners after you should probably get it power polished if you're not putting any stickers back on the same place as you will be able to see the outline after wards

thanks again for all the input lads, its really apprieciated, gonna make light work of something i was putting of for ages.
