Do's and Don'ts of car rental

When renting a 7 seater to go driving around Ireland for when your friends visit from abroad:

Do:
Book the car yourself, don't let your foreign friends book one themselves! oh this is cheaper. etc!
Do ring up the rental company the day before and confirm what the "car X or equivalent" is!
If its a 7 seater you need, make sure it can comfortably fit 7 adults, not 1 adult and 6 kittens.
Make sure its a diesel, not a 2 tonne, 1.6 litre, piece of crap
Check the Damage sheet they give you as soon as you get to the car and mark all the extra damage on the car and report it asap!
Email Subaru asking them why they don't have a 7 seater in their range
Take 2 cars next time and make sure one of them is your Subaru!

Don't:
Accept an Opel Zafira as an "or equivalent"
Use budget.ie
Drive 1100km's in 2 days

Rant over!

 I had that exact same trouble on a family holiday to west cork in an opel zafira
by the time i got to cork city i went into the rental company and MADE them change
it for an auto 2lt turbo diesel ford galaxy that was the dogz
I know EXACTLY where you are comming from Dan.

rented a van for work before and what a heap of shxt and no drivers side mirror....MADE A BIG MISTAKE COLLECTING IT THAT I DIDNT CHECK DAMAGE SHEET COS WHEN WE LEFT IT BACK THEY SAID IT WAS STONE DENTS ALL OVER AND MISSING A DRIVERS MIRROR..... I DROVE IT FROM GALWAY TO CLIFTEN DELIVERED A FRIDGE AND HEADED BACK AND THERE OFFICE WAS CLOSED SO THE SAID TO DROP IT OFF AT THE GARAGE THAT DOES THERE WORK.... THEY RANG MONDAY GIVING OUT.....
they were told where to go.......

to anyone renting make sure to check the van/car for every dent and mark and report it...
we rent vans on a regular basis and we allways find dents that arent on damage sheet... report them cos they will find the when you drop them back....

Had the same thing happen to me, droped my van in for a service and rented one from the garage i didn't check for damage,
drove to work and noticed there was a dent in the passenger door! rang the garage and told them, they said the van was a1 when i picked it up blah blah! i drove it back to the garage at the end of the day and was told that it was ok they had seen cctv footage and that i was in the clear.
