dvd to ipad software

One for the tec heads

I got a ipad for crimbo and want to put dvd movies on it for the little one for our holidays in a couple of weeks and was wondering a few things,

1. what software or easiest way is there to actually put the dvd onto my pc permantly with out having to have the dvd in the e drive.

2. how do i then convert it to be able to go onto my ipad

If you browse you E: drive you can just copy the folder on to your desktop or where were you want.

Or use itunes. Install itunes on your pc, copy the dvd to a library and then sync it to your ipad

Pretty sure iTunes is the only way to get it on your Ipad, not 100% on that

there are lots of softwares that do the job
personally i would go for a (open source ) like above
as they are free
