Eircom broadband

looking to get the broadband reconnected at home so i rang eircom today as they were the dsl provider i had before. the girl on the phone said i would need to sign a 6 month contract and that they could not ensure that they would be able to supply me with a dsl line. i nearly lost the plot with her cause she was tryin to get me to take on a contract in which i could end up not getting the very service i was signing the contract for :ponder2: :ponder2: :ponder2:

so im looking out now for a dsl provider and would like to know of any suggestions or dealings good or bad with your dsl providers.
looking into the likes of the 02 but not sure if it will work out here in rush and i dont have the cash for an exspensive installation....so any ideas????

eircom, or any other company for that matter, will have contract on the broadband service, not on the line. which means if they try connecting you but are unsuccessful in getting broadband in, then there is no contract. as an ex eircom rep, i know for sure you cant be contracted for line only connection.

she made out that i would have to get the line in and then apply for the broadband once the line was in place, at this point i would have agreed to the 6 month contract and if the line wasnt suitable for a dsl it would be tough luck. yw think she could have done a line test to see if the line is suitable but it probably has something to do with contention and the ammount of ppl around me who have the broadband with eircom

it could be down to contention ratios but these days they usually have exchanges fully capaple of broadband, when enabled, but usually its simply down to the fact that lines cant be checked until the line is connected to the house.

service is never guaranteed until the broadband is active. what she would have been saying was that the package(including broadband) would be a six month contract but broadband could not be assured so you would still be liable for line rental charges, and although you are contracted for six months on your package, this would be voided if connection to broadband was unsuccessful and you can disconnect your phoneline or move to another provider if there is no bb service on the line.

which means, no broadband=no contract.

i get ye now......fair play for clearing that up. i think ill shop about a bit and see whats available. i found the service i had with them before faultless and never had a problem or a reason to kick up a fuss about them till now.

have the 02 wireless broadband now, the modem is a huawei e1752r.......is it posible to speed this up or make it quicker or is it posible to get another modem to suit the sim card and get a quicker connection. :geek:
