Fishing

Petrolheads
after the meet in howth last week i decided to dig out my fishing gear. i havent fished in about 3 years due to babys and house renvations, but after talking with prinz at the meet about it i decided to take it up again. it wasnt till i took out all my gear that i realised i have rods and reels that i havent even used yet and stuff that i forgot i even bought. it was like something from christmas morning, unwrapping stuff i got over the net that i handnt had a chance to use. so ive been searching the net to try and find the tide times for tomorow morning and i think high tide is at about 8.30 am, which means ied start at about 6.30/7.00 am. when fishing i would usually hit howth and catch a few mackeral to be used as bait that following night to catch the big lads, but tomorrow i think ill just stay local and do a bit of spinning for bass and mackeral. i also to a bit of lake fishing up in cavan/monaghan for pike but i usually keep this for the winter months when its too rough to fish the sea. anyone else into the fishin and if so do you keep your spots a close secret and go alone or do you invite everyone and bring a load of tinnys and a disposable bbq....

used to fish a little bit down brittas bay and Arklow , never caught anythin other than dog fish , so gave it up . some of my mates still at it tho , went down past courttown over da weekend they did , dunno if anythin was bitin ? ?

Always try and go out on a boat sea fishing at least once a year. Usually go out from Mullaghmore where the last stage of rally ireland 2007 was held. Mainly mackeral and Pollack but used to catch the odd dog fish or cuckoo rass etc. Gonna do some lake and river fishing this year as well weather permitting  Used to do alot of fishing on the Shannon around Tarmonbarry/Clondra for pike. Love catching them dirty F**KERS

dont fish in rush matt........when i say local i mean on the northside usually around portmarnock/malahide. Around the time i got too busy to fish i was after bass mostly. ive only ever caught one and i bought fly rods and reels to do some saltwater flyfishing for them but never got the chance.
when i go baitfishing its usually from the rocks as opposed to from the beach and allthough i dont mind catching dogfish they usually get in the way of the smoothhounds and huss.
the only reason i go to howth is to catch bait, its no fun pulling in 5/6 mackeral at a time on a beachcaster so i use light spinning rods with small reels and catch them one at a time and anything i dont use that night gets frozen to be used for the pike in the winter.
howth is a great area for fishing but the good spots are a bit of a trek but worth it.

yeah i hear waterford and wexford are bass fishing havens. ive only ever caught one bass and that was on a beechcaster and was no contest so im dyin to try a few places up here that meet the criteria for that type of fish. also want to try carlingford but lack of local knowledge is stopping me. i have really good local knowledge of where i fish but i have to start trying further afield
