There is a very nasty story with the Hungarian airlines.
To cut the long story ( all political bullshit) short the national company ( owned 95% by state and 5% by a Russian bank ) grounded on Friday morning without any notice giving to passengers.
Some 7200 people Was waiting in airports to find Out the only way to get to They`r destination is to buy a new ticket from other companies. (imagine what it costs to buy tickets for such a short notice)
It was all announced around 7 AM on Friday and by 6 PM the whole fleet of 14 planes left the country to Shannon airport to ILFC`s base.
I don`t know much about these things but is that possible to organize the 14 flights to bring over so quickly?
I mean , I am sure the management knew that Was coming but didn`t say anything thus making an awful lot of problem for thousands of people.
Not to mention the 750.000 tickets sold already and wont be easy to get money back. ( I have 6 treturn tickets booked with them for the next half Year :hammerhead:)

We`ll see.
Is there any way to find Out in Shannon if They knew before Friday about the 14 planes are coming from Hungary ?

You'll need to check do the hungarian government have a commission for aviation regulation.

Ireland have one & basically any airline or travel agent that operates from Ireland must be bonded with this state body. The body covers people in the event of an airline or travel agent collapse. I have used them in the past when an airline I travelled with went bust while I was on holidays in Spain. I just booked my return flight with Ryanair & forwarded the receipt to the commission & got a cheque from them within a month or so.

They are no use to you on the basis that malev aren't registered here but no harm ringing them anyway, they might be able to point you in the right direction to getting your money back. If booked on credit card then would be worth ringing your credit card company too

pity I was using MALEV on few occasions before, and they were one of the good ones.
