gearing on a version 1 2 and 3 sti compared to version 4 and 5

one thing i really like about the older sti is the short throw of the gearstick compared to the new moder version 4 and 5
the gearing seams much shorter
for me it makes driving the car a much better experience and much more raw
mayby its just me

can i fit a earlier gearbox easily and what codes do i need to look for?
i love the version 4 ihave but the gearing is pissing me off
 
You're looking for a 3.9 ratio box and diff, if money permits get a 3.9 diff from a new age only downside is you'll need the hubs and shafts as well but at least 2 pots rears will bolt straight on :dance:
 
The 3.9 boxes and diffs from wrx ra and sti ra v1/2 hard found.

The v1/2 sti are 4.11

3.9 from new age was r180 on jap sti's

Jdm wrx bug/blobs were 4.44
