getting away with vrt

i dont know if will or does work but i was told from a fella that if you get a duplicate of your license sent it up north and apply for eng license (of course you will need an eng address)
when you get the english license back you can get insurance up north and tax car and drive away. it sounds too good to be true so wondering can anyone confirm or shoot me down :naughty:

The way they look at it is that you have to have employment up north ie pay checks coming from there.

Nearly sure on it :ponder:

if you knw someone up north with business and print off fake pay slips on computer wud it work. its just an idea and worth looking into

This is true to an extent, i know somebody who has an english address but lives here permanently. He has an english licence and has 3 cars on english plates and gets away with it. But he has been warned by the garda that if they keep seeing him then he will be reported to customs

I know a lad with a p1 doing the same thing and has had no problems.

A bit off topic but when they start importing the 08 sti,
im guessing the will be clearing it just as a 2.0litre (non turbo) as they have with most our jap imports to avoid
the higher vrt of a sti.

So in saying that, wont the tax be CHEAP?

seriousl thinking of chancing it and with insurance up north ya can gat two car policy. that way could keep the type r and buy a decent english diesel and get both insured on same policy and save a few pound. its worth a chance !!!

if you got say a 08 sti and done that for a year could you just bring it in and just register it on irish plates

without paying vrt because youve owned it for a year?

i think clearing it more complicated as think they look for p60 (eng version) proff of bank acc and wages being paid in and such

how about getting a lad from the uk to buy it, uk insure it, uk tax it and you going name driver.
and drive away over here.
i do think you have to return to the uk so often with the car.

there is a building contracter here and any jeep he has gotten, he has keeped it on uk plates.
he has a Q7 now.
he also has a registered busness in the uk.

if this is true, il be getting another scooby.

can anyone clear this up?

I believe it would be the same as with polish cars. ;) You can drive one here no longer than 3 months, and then you must register in Ireland. Garda's do not really care. It's the customs who chase you :)

ya fella told me you mite have to make a few trips to england a year but sure its an excuse to go to scoobyfest and stuff. the missus cant say f all ha ha

i honestly think im gonna chance it whats worst that can happen , your told it not working clear it ! i have had many and always got 3 months to change over so if get away 6 months b4 caught it sound. i get fed up after six months with car anyways.

i think the 3 months is done away with.
but sure anytime your stopped sell the car to your misses, change all the details, and change back again.

id chance it round here, there is never customs round.
and cops dont care once your not getting reported.

well fella down here has a 08 range rover sport and he reckons thats how he is getting away with it. worst is once coppers r customs see its a high performance car they take a set on ya

Thought about doing it myself plenty of times if i had somewhere reliable up the north to use as an address... Customs are pr1cks anyway, a lad i used to work with was from the north and up and back every weekend, his wife was stopped by customs and they took the car off her on the spot and held onto it for 3 months...

The problems would only arise if you have an accident and the insurance company then start to ask questions and then investigate the claim... Worst case scenario, if that happens, then they could refuse to pay out and cancel your insurance leaving you to pay for any damages and possible court cases if the other driver decides to take it that far...

It'd be great if it works out for you, but you may as well bend over and take it if the worst should happen

if it was that easy and simple...everyone would do it!!!!
course its risky though
personally dont think i sleep at night knowing that i'm always looking over my shoulder for the lads from customs....
its a big revenue collection for government so now that the country is tight for money...i reckon the customs will have to justify to the government that they can get results and will mean these guys will lookout for everyone in foreign reg cars....
the northies are not coming down in huge numbers for work anymore so the story of being here working on and off wont stick IMO...

LADS I WAS TOLD BEFORE BY A GUY I WORK WITH THAT IF YOU BRING IN A CAR YOU HAVE A DAY TO CLEAR IT HE BOUGHT A 08 MONDEO UP NORTH AROUND THE START OF THE YEAR
SAVED A PACKET BUT THE MAIN DEALER WHERE HE GOT IT TOLD HIM IF HE'D ANY PROBLEMS TO RING HIM AND HE WOULD GIVE HIM PAPERWORK TO SAY IT WAS A LEASE PLAN CAR SO IT APPEARS THERE IS A FEW LOOP HOLES IN THE SYSTEM

You can get a fine for everday passed the VRT deadline day... :wall: this could cost a lot if you have the car in the country a while. :shock2: My sister had to show bank statements, shopping bills, utitliy bills when her and the hubby brought her XC90 in from the UK where they'd lived for years. They're fairly strict and there's harsh penalties if you get caught! You've been warned!!
