subarus on a whole are very reliable thats how the gained there reputation in the uk with the original awd turbo..most of the stories you have heard are probably related to the grey imports..problem with these cars is the come from japan with no service history mostly plus they have been set up to run on 101 octane fuel..it wont take them same abuse a type-r will..but they aren't meant to be driven the same way..you dont redline to get the most out of them as you would with the vtec....in general no Turbo wil take the same punishment as a car with vvt and high lift cams

Hello Bushi,

To answer your question from my point of view. I bought a new car from Japan last year with delivery mileage. As its from Japan it was supplied without warranty. I would have not taken a chance if I thought it was going to be unreliable.

I bought a new WRX wagon in 2001 (last of the classic shape). I had the car for almost three years and the only problems I had were the drivers door seal use to let in air when driving fast and the brakes started squeeling. I had a new seal fitted under warranty. On the brakes the car was nearly three years old at this stage and Bursey Peppard replaced all pads and front discs under warranty

When I got my current car remapped last year by Andy F, he told me that a lot of the common faults over the years have been ironed out. There is also a lot of engine protection going on under the bonnet which provide safe guards should something fail.

Other lads will probably give the same advise, keep it well serviced. Change the oil and filter at approx 5k miles and don't abuse it.

I've done 8K kms so far and not one problem. Lets hope I've not jinxed it

Cheers,

Michael

Subaru give a three year warrenty with their cars so they odviously think that nothing will go wrong with it in the first three years, I myself drive a MY03 Sti and have done for the past year and have no problems with it. I've had five imprezas at this stage and the only thing I every had to do outside servicing was to fit a rad hose and radiator, and that one was 6 yrs old at the time.
With grey imports you can have touble if not re-maped. If you modify a subaru even in a small way you have to re-map. Best of luck with yours. :subaru:

By the way if you mod a new car in any way the warranty is dead, subaru will not cover it, just thought you should know. :subaru:
