Following on from tommys thread looking for advice on a new tv I have a question too.

I'm in a fairly new house, only built a couple of years & has tv points in a few rooms including sitting room & bedroom. I tried previously to run a coax cable from the sky box into the wall & then ran coax from tv point in the bedroom to the tv in the hope that the signal would travel but it didn't.

Is there something I'm missing here or is something like that just not possible? Only reason I'm asking is that in a moment of weakness last weekend I bought a sky eye & don't really fancy having to run a coax cable all the way from the sitting room up to the bedroom.

Is there not already a load of co-ax cables visable in the attic , usually ( well i say usually its what i done ) the builder runs the cables from tv points to the attic where you connect your sky satelite and rte aerial to a cental box that sends the signal all over the house !

Your house is timber frame anyays so running new wire is relativley clean job to do

Haven't looked to be honest, the front of the house has a very sharp roofline so we use the back portion for storage so haven't been up front to see. They could be sitting underneath the insulation though.

yup probably are hidden under it , should be fairly handy to find hopefully

How much was the sky eye by the way , could do with one

A little infra red unit & sky remote, you connect to your sky box via a normal coax cable & you can then watch sky from a different room & can change channel with the remote.

Be careful when watching porn when you have the sky eye... If your neighbour has one then you could be switching his tv to porno too  Its happening to a mate of mine when him and the missus are watching tv in the evenings, their neighbour comes in and throws on the porn so my mate then goes and throws on coronation street or something. They didnt realise what was happening for ages

We were quoted €80 for the sky eye

be carefull with the sky eye as they wont work if the sky signal is being fed through an amplified splitter

€80 :shock2:

I picked it up for about £15 up north at the weekend :snooty:

Computers are for porn, I'm pretty sure my tv only ever has Charmed or Ghost Whisperer or whatever other crap Living can show :angry1:

I've never cabled a house before but I'd be willing to give it a go. Think I have a drill and a hammer somewhere... Can't be that hard.

We didnt buy it, I told herself no fooking way was I paying that much for it!! Where did you get yours for £15?

Already spending crazy money on sky every month with HD so not giving them any more money so this will do for now.

@ Fenster...cheers man, I think tommy has volunteered to call tomorrow but if not I'll get back on to you :icon_biggrin:

Long and short of it is......

You will require (proper job) 2 cables behind your livingroom tv.... 1 from skybox to atic.... 1 from attic to tv again
a cable from each room (that has a tv point) all coming to a central point (same place as cable from sky box goes too...)

Ya will then need a ___way signal amplifier splitter box (replace___ with number of rooms you want to view sky)

I done this about 10-12 years ago in parents house and its still working brilliantly now!!!

The splitter box can be as simple as this 1....

just so long as it has at least 1 input and the correct number of outputs you need......
It will start to get a little more complicated if you want to be able to watch living room DVD's etc in other rooms but that can also be setup with a bit of trickery

Eh not following completely there hammie?

I use the hdmi out from sky box to tv so I'm guessing I don't need to come back from attic to sitting room? Can I not just run a cable from rf out on sky box to other tv?
