Just a question to anyone in the know about vw transporter's, on cold starts it has been hard started and has been smokey, just a puff of grey/blue smoke and then its perfect, anyway i left it in to the vw dealer i bought it from, that was lastnight so they could see the problem for themselves when they started it in the morning,

after no contact today i decided to ring them that was 12:30pm they said ouh  we havent looked at it yet but its next up, after waiting til 3pm with no reply :angry1: i said i'd go to get it one way or another, when i got there they were just taking it in,

an hour later the mechanic came out and said that the problem was a FUSE for the glowplugs seemingly located in the engine bay somewhere.
my question is how long would it take to replace, and how much would it cost.

ps. they didnt have a fuse but they fixed temperarely so as i'd have to go back for a second time to :mooner:

Thanks for any info

@Pete no bother getting the part but just wanted to know how much it should cost from someone that has had something simular done

@Keith its 2006.

The Part is a stagering €1, but i got a bill for labour it was €121 ex vat for an hour or so :shock2: is it just me or is that very dear :ponder2:

way too dear its 50 or 60 an hour i think. youd think they would look after you a bit better, after buying it from them

121 euros an hour and only changing a fuse that's a rip off and i would have questioned it .i have a 08 transporter and its probably the worst van i ever had stupid electrical faults air bag light wont go off drivers window switch doesn't work bad vibrations in the break an clutch pedal when braking .rant over.garages are not selling anything now so screwing people for services and parts the have to make it somewhere.

most vw/audi dealers are 100 +vat an hour!!!!
minimum charge!!!
fookin theives.....
only takes a couple of minutes to fit....just a strip of metal mate!!!!
:angry1: :angry1:

fooking wankers no wonder i never go near a main stealer, there a joke,

is it not under warranty nick?

@Duffman i stoped using them after 2nd service as they wanted me to rent a car/van each time said they would need my van for the day (just for a service) so i started using Cartork, a bit of a drive but i'd get the van back in 2hr, a great job done, and it was cheaper + i could go back to work where as the other way i'd have to leave the van in with them, hire a van, swap insurance go to work leave work early to get back for mine switch insurance back and ofcourse the compulsary :mooner:

@Mark it's a criminal offence what they get away with.

@Scoobysub they didnt change it just done a temp fix so i'd have to go back and give them another €120, as for the van i find it to be a great van there a good bit dearer than most in their class but their built to last, well except for the fuses :angry1: unlike transits which are made of rust, and the opels, nissans and similar have week engines no offence to anyone who owns 1 of the above

I have an LT35 157hp LWB high roof!
She's a great van
An injector failed on her, when she was 13months old ,I read the ownership papers carefully and found that the garage I bought it from would recover and fix any problems in the first year,
But the injector failed when the van was only 2 months old and the I made them give a years warrenty from that point, so till she was 14months old! I had a letter from the salesman extending the warrenty for two months!

I rang the garage, they were out like a shot towed it from blessington to swords, and fixed it in a couple of days, rang me and said it was ready to colllect!
I got up there and they handed me a bill for €1,200 including €320 for towing charges!
I told him it was under warrenty, they said no no she's over a year old! I produced the letter from the salesman, and they disputed it saying that salesman didn't work there anymore,
I had big row with the manager and he wasn't letting me leave with out paying, I was outside on the phone trying to figure out what to do and I saw the salesman who had expended the warrenty chatting to a potential customer, (lying ba**ards) I went back in and grabbed the van keys, hopped in my van and left, with quite a bit of giving out and shouting from the garage staff!
I never heard from them! and I started servicing my van myself, If anything more serious goes wrong with her, there is no way I'm going near a main stealer

@ Nick, now you know the problem, get the fuse off them and fit it yourself!

it would take 3 min at a snales pace to fix,
its under the bonnet on the pass side.

no more the 5euro i would of said.

you should ask them was there anything else done to the van as the service advisor mite not have the whole story obviously the fuses are the first things to be checked after doing a diagnostic check but to be fair to them a fuse doesn't blow for no reason so i think an hour would be fair enough to properly diagnose the problem but their hourly rate is crazy but merc and bmw dealers in cork are 130 + vat robbing bastards

Just an update for anyone who's interested,

I called into the garage today to get the fuse at a cost of €2  grand job,
i asked the chap at service and parts was there anyone who could point me as to where the fuse goes in the engine-bay,

his response was "you'll have to book it in"  i said not a hope in hell yous are gonna charge me €120(+vat) again to put a fuse in

so i went to someone further up on the food chain asked him the same thing, he went to the mechanic and came back and told me it goes under the battery and battery tray, i said thank you kindly and was on my way.

got home removed the battery and tray loosened a few bolts unscrewed a few screw's took out the old fuse put in the new one, put bolts etc back fired her up job done, it took a grand total of 40min to do that was inc finding the right tools in the shed finding out what needed to be loosened and removed, I'd say someone who knew what they were doing would have done it in 20min tops.

So job done and €118 (+vat) better off

VW dealer kiss my :mooner:
