i had a receiver up for sale here a while ago and it didnt shift so i decided to stick it into the car. radio communications has been a hobby of mine for years and up untill recently i had upwards of 3k worth of radio equipment in the house. sold it all and put the money towards the gaff and the scooby. this was the last bit of kit i had and i mainly use it to receive the airplanes and general communications. i head out to the airport early some weekends and chill out there for a while listening to the tower. so if ye have any other hobbies or intrests post a bit about them

Cool, Often wondered what would be going on over the airways up at the airport. A mate of mine, dad used to be into that kinda thing too but he never let anyone into his office even when he was there - abit of a weirdo if you ask me .
Would you pick up much??

Nice gadget, Please God you will be hearing my voice on it at the airport in a few months.

I bought an iCom hand held receiver years ago from CQ Comms. Still have it and picks up everything...taxi/guards/ambulance/firebrigade/aviation/. Used to be able to pick the old 088 mobile phones too.

yeah i pick up a good bit of stuff.......planes, marine, amateur opperators and then theres all the companys that use radios like taxis and couriers. in certain circumstances the international space station can be received. the other receivers i had could receive the likes of the coastgaurd in sweeded and scotland. its hard to go into it without sounding like a complete berk.....lol... but there is a lot to it.

i like the way you call it a reciever. If you get stopped and the cops see that in there what happens?
looks well tho, i wanted to get one for my centre console but never did

cops cant do sh1t about it........im not dumb enough to have any illegal frequencies in it. the law states that you cant listen to anything not directly intended for you with the exception of certain services. they can confiscate it but after they examine it they have to give it back if they dont find fault with with the way its being opperated. ive been stopped before with receivers and once they dont hear themselves or other members they just hand it back. the one thing i have to do is get a more descreet antenna but just havent gotten around to it yet.

I saw all the lads in the civics etc have those things down the country. Im guessing to keep track of guarda activity?
Do you have a massive arial on your car roof?

having one of these for the gaurds is pointless as there in the process of upgrading their system which will be encrypted and ye wont be able hear them anyway.
i have a boot lid mounted antenna on the car at the moment, it clips onto the lip of the boot and is something similar to what the taxis use. ill get a mini magmount which looks like a mobile phone antenna and sticks to the roof with a little magnet about the size of a two euro coin.

Thats probably for CB use so they can keep track of everybody or help the people that are lost in a convoy etc etc

The guards have been "in the process of upgrading" that system since 2001. I know because I did the interview for the guards and was asked about it.
