Insurance Declarations

I got a letter from the underwriters of my insurance policy today asking me to declare all modifications that have been made to the car. I told them when i was getting insurance that i have after market wheels and exhaust. They said they would be in touch but that was back in February, i presume this is them getting in touch now. What i want to know is do you have to declare a dump valve as a mod? I should also be fitting ARB's, Brembo big brake kit and Defi Gauges in the next couple of weeks. Should i declare them now or wait until i have them on the car to do it then.

I declared Wheels , spoiler and tints and made no difference to mine ,

Engine mods might be different story ? :ponder2:

Could be better off playin dumb on engine mods , :dontknow: might be a way of increasing your premium :icon_hang:

I don't really mind paying the extra if theres nothing they can throw in my face if God forbid i had an accident. I told them of the wheels and exhaust before so thought that was included in the price, but maybe not. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what the craic is with them.

Depending on whom the insurer is..if it whos i think it is..declare everything even down to BOV!!

I would 100% declare wheels and any modifications!! The positive to declaring now before

doing is that look how long it took them to "get back to you" and youd never know what kind of tactic theyd pull

if ye had an accident saying that the owness is on the insured party and not the insurer!!

On another note, if you have an accident whilst out of n.c.t (even if n.c.t booked for a few weeks away)

your claim settlement amount is reduced by 25%..dont think i need to mention what inusrer has this policy!!

Hmmm this has got me thinking...

My insurer has my Gt-B down as a Legacy GL, a slightly different breed of machine altogether. I was a bit worried about that last time my renewal came up and I went through everything with the guy on the phone - said "you know this is a twin turbo" etc etc. He just said yeah that's all fine, they don't have a listing for the gt-b so they just put it in as the closest thing.

That's all rosy for the price on the insurance but with ye're posts above I'm getting a bit nervous that if I have a wee smash will they turn around and tell me to go jump because I have a completely different car type insured.

Anyone else with leggy's know whether they are listed as a Gt or a GL?

Defintally not a GL, a GL is a non-turbo. I'd fix that ASAP. They won't pay out a cent if you go to claim, its a completly different car...

Steve.

Youd be surprised how some insurers try to wriggle out of paying.

Best example is if yer car is jap import and is down as something else on import sheet,

and i dont just mean a 1.3 turbo down as a 1.3 standard..im talking colour here aswell etc..

It is coomon for vrt office to make mistakes as they use codes for colours (my car was down as red, when clearly not red)

The assistant inspecting the car fooked up and upon research i was told to change the colour with motor tax office to blue so

log book is all dandy...then ye go to motorcheck.ie and shes down as red...not good :naughty:

Bottom line, if anything slightly untoward or erroneous they slam u and wont pay...again dont need to mention company in Question!!

Ah Crap,

I kinda figured but I did go through the full specs of the car with the insurance co and he specifically said it was ok, however I don't have anything in writing from them so yeah, better get my ass on the phone to them.

Ta for the motivation!

When i insured my leggy i did it online and gt-b twin turbo was one of the models in a drop down menu.

Try and get them to put it down as a gt or they'll prob try to screw ya if you do have a tip.

same here when i got my first legacy it was a 95 GT when getin my quote online no insurance company had it listed as a twinturbo no questions asked but didnt bother telling them for fear of refusal of insurance was my first insurance without the miss on it had 0 ncb but when i got my GT-B 6 month later it was a different story sitting on side naas road in it rang to transfer over and was told no cant insure that car because its a twinturbo so told them my other one was too it took half hour arguing that it wasnt my fault their system was wrong they swapped it over and insurance went up 300 and has gone up by 100 each year for the last 3 years up again next month so ain't expecting any different so would recommend you make them change it to a GT-B you wont replace a GT-B for GL money
