Insurance for 2nd Car?

B4 Alan

Petrolheads
I'm looking at getting myself a diesel  for during the week and keeping the P1 for the weekends.....
Does anyone know what the story is with insuring a second car in your name? I've been told so many different stories about having to start from afresh on the second car (not been able to use current NCB) etc etc.....

So I'm either looking at a 'multi car' insurance where I can put 3 cars on it with myself and the wife named or a policy that allows me to insure 2 cars..... I mean it's not as if I can drive 2 of them at once so it shouldn't be that much of a risk :ponder:

Anyone have any ideas??

Cheers.
Alan.

Most companies provide cover 3rd party with all policy's. With Quinn if you have a full license, you can drive any car that is not in your name with 3rd party insurance. Just put the car in the wifes name :)

:ponder:

My wife already has a car.... so at the moment both of us are named on both cars fully comp.....

So there will be 3 cars in the family...

Cheers.

Alan.

Alan im in the same position as you, the other half has a car already and Id like a diesel for the day to day driving. So if anyone has any ideas that dont involve a trade policy fire away, altough a trade policy might be my only option.

legget insurance!

If you crash, you legget

Just kidding....

Alan i got a second car last year. I had to start a new policy with no ncb. I got a 4door pick up. Got commercial insurance and tax. Anybody over 25 and with a full licence is insured without having to notify the insurer. Its a 2.5 and tax is only 263 euro. Hope this helps.

Would you not need to have a registered company to get commercial insurance?

I have commercial insurance on my private van.
Expensive to insure a van. And your no claims are totally seperate to your car policy.
This annoyed me as i had 3 years no claims on the van and bought a car and had zero no claims

ive the 2 cars and the van all insured with hibernian
they said i won't be getting any no claims on the van but because all the policies are with them that they gave me the no claims
from the cars,so me and the wife are fully comp on all 3

Insurance for the pick up cost me 1050 euro fully comp i think... can't remember right now . And its insured for 4 passengers.

I own a 1990 pug 205 which I'm insured on since I was 17! It costs me €311 a year and my insurance through quinn covers me to drive (3rd party cover) any other private car not owned by myself!
there are no other conditions!!
I've been involved in a very serious crash (2 cars wrote off) and a fair few traffic light posts, and with garda all over the place, I was driving my mechanics car with my 3rd party extention and there was no problem!
My dad is the official owner of my gttdi golf (work car) and my wifey has the same thing on her forester policy so she can drive my golf and I'm a named driver on the forester (fully comp €670 for both of us)
The only way to go! as garage polisies are at least €1200

I got a VW Caddy van and even starting afresh with no - no claims bonus the first year was only 300

Yeah its the same with any Quinn policy once you have a full license. Handy indeed.....

with quinn myself and take advantage of this as often as i can!

but the other private car has be insured doesnt it? ie. in someone elses name?

also i was told by quinn that this extension does not cover any commercials, jeeps, or people carriers

any1 the same??

Mark

My policy says that the other car does not have to be insured!
And my policy does exclude jeeps and vans and such!
