Insurance

Legacy ra

New member
Anyone know of any insurance companies that will cover me on my 1993 subaru legacy, I'm 27 with a full licence, looking for a classic insurance

Classic be hard. Long story short, my mom and dad just about got insured on my 03 Impreza. Munster Group brokers who got a policy with Prestige. Call a couple times because Prestige are the only ones taking on a car more than 15 years old. First quote was 890, second was 8000 and the third was 1200. I misheard the 890 so had to cough the 1200. So that proves that insurance is a scam. Different companies finding the same policy but given 3 prices.

Hi,

Try auto line in Northern Ireland, they cover southern reg cars on classic policies, they may however upper the minimum age to 35 recently to cover car on classic policy and you must have another daily car also,

I have used axa in the past also for classic policy

Tryed autoline they would insure me on it until I'm 30, trying a load of companies and as sure as I said subaru they cut me there not even asking my age they just won't have anything got to do with a subaru so looks like I have an uninsurable car šŸ˜”

Try Munster Group Monday Morning, based in Clare. Had my insurance with them in '17/'18 and now '21.

As a last resort you could ask a parent or older brother or sister to insure it through autoline

Ya going to try munster group Monday, if I can't get my own insurance goin to have to get my brother r sister to insure it just wanted it to be insure in my name and have it right

-> doesn't mention whether you have an actual other daily car insured in your name, or how much NCB you have clocked up as at 27 that will have a significant impact on whether you will get even offered the chance at a policy.
-> you are 100% right with what you said there...

Few points based on personal experience and what have seen happen with others and which will keep you on the right side of things...

1. Legacy should be WAY easier (and cheaper) to insure than an Impreza... make sure you point out it is a Legacy ( and not "a boy racer" car like an Impreza)

2. As said "Classic Policy" only ever an option if you also have another (newer) daily car insured in your own name.

3. Might get a (better) response if just looking to insure Legacy (I mean -> transfer your existing policy from your normal daily to the Legacy for a while). While you are in cover, and already own the Legacy at the time you look to affect the transfer, your current insurer will have to at least cover you until the renewal date. Then clock up some time on the policy with the Legacy... and presto... you are no longer looking for "new cover", but a car you had a while and which was insured etc. Down the road then (I mean by next renewal), you can go back to insuring your normal daily (if that is what suits you and if you are still looking to get a "classic cover policy") and then either get cover with same underwriters that covered the Legacy previously... and/or find an insurer like for example AXA (but there are others out there) who will mirror your NCB from the main policy onto the classic insurance for the 2nd car (the Leggie in this case).

4. Every company you approach who refuses to quote you on the Legacy... make sure you request, and get in writing, their refusal to quote (including the correct details like reg, vin, your name and address etc). You need 3 of those refusals to "force" companies to quote.

Good luck!

There was a thread in member's section but I can't find it now.
