Internet sorted at long last

Since I've moved to the sticks in October I've been lost without UPC broadband, we've tried all the mobile broadband providers which were muck, I thought of getting satellite broadband although after chatting people that has it I was put off. Today however I made a break through I set up an external roof antenna connected to an O2 mobile dongle in my attic and now I have wifi around the house. I'm pleasantly surprised with speeds it can achieve, anywhere between 6-10kbps download and 0.8-1.5kbps upload according to speedtest.net and all for €20 per month. From memory that would compare favourably to UPC which was €40 per month. Out of interest what sort of speed can the rest of ye get with your setup???

That's UPC speed, your 6-10 speed is very good, when I was in the sticks the most I could get was 3

On UPC 25mb, get 20mb download speed on the wifi.

anto thats not bad speed i getting about 6-8mbps on 02 dongel . but should only be costing 14 euros a month look into it

I am getting about 3mbps on O2 and it is a tad over €20 per month.

Is the €14 per month a special for new customers?

Installing new eirc8m fibre and seeing attainables of over 100Mb in peoples houses, I have about 18Mb and its grand.

Hi Anto, is that in Mbps, or Kbps?

For years couldn't get ADSL where I live and was stuck first with Ripple, which was terrible. It was supposed to be 2Mb up and down and on a handful of days it achieved that... mostly though it was worse than dial up speeds and often down for days on end. Then moved to NBS from Three. Again I was on the edge of the cover area and for €20/mth was seeing anything between 1Mb up/down, all the way down to less than dial up speeds depending on the weather. Then Eircom upgraded the phone exchange about 2 years ago and on Vodafone's 20Mb/768k since. Only wished they offered a better upload option, but they don't. Still... on a special deal with them for €28/mth for 6 months and then €52 which includes unlimited free calls.

My O2 dongle too slow. Can't watch por...i mean youbube fast enough.
