Japanese and UK Imports?

S

STI Ltd Type US

Guest
Following the advice of many of you, I am selling my LHD U.S. STI spec Limited and will buy a proper RHD car when I arrive in Ireland (mid May).

Regarding the Jap and UK imports, do the newer cars still have factory warranty (to protect buyer against major defects) or is the factory warranty null and void once the car enters Ireland?

I've been looking throgh carzone and the autotrader, but there seems to be a small pool of STIs for sale in Ireland? Have any of you bought a UK car and brought it in? Also, what are some of the better importers of Jap cars.

Thanks
Sean

you get no warranty with a jap car bought here. "Sold as seen" is what most dealers will tell you.

When you arrive over here keep an eye on the for sale section. You will find a good car thats been looked after by a member.

As far as I know there is a compulsory 3 month warranty when a car is sold by a dealer. I think if the car is newer then its longer but not sure about that 1. I'm sure somebody would be able to clarify it. But if you buy private then its bought as is, no warranty

Yeah u are protected by consumer rights, they cant sell u a peice of crap and give u no come back, no matter what the dealer says.

ya what is the story with warrentys law wise

Not sure exactly mate but there is a 3 month minimum, when i went looking, a guy in jap imports told me there was a 3 month warranty but it didint cover the turbos. I didnt look into it anymore than that because I ended up buying from a guy i knew who just gave me a straight 3 month warranty

for how long.?

I havent a clue, but no matter what the dealer says the law is on ur side. He cant sell u a car that explodes a x amount of time of buying it and then say sold as seen.
