As Above,
I'm trying to get my 20 yr old little sister motoring, It's either that or she stay sitting at home for the next couple of years!!
So can anyone point me in the right direction of a nice slow Moped, and who to ring for insurance for her!
I don't care what it looks like, or how old it is, as long as it's safe!
Thanx lads,
Dan

She's to feckin lazy to cycle, and to broke to run a car! 6 miles on the far side of blessington lake,
Not to many options I'm afraid :dontknow:
at least a Moped will have lights and can potter along at a reasonable pace!

I bought a 250 FZR 3LN from City Spares a couple of years ago... Its a 91/92 bike and it wasnt in bad nick for what it was when i bought it!!!! Its away getting a full rebuild at the moment (cause i wanted to rebuild it, not cause i needed too)
City Spares are in Cherry Orchard just off the N4 there...
They sell alot of scooters etc.
Maybe that would be a good place to look for something!!!

I have a 04 Honda xr8 fifty cc my neighbour left me when he moved away. Don't really know what its worth but id let it go handy enough. I rang for a quote for the craic tri caroll and nash bike division I'm 27 premium was 400 third party only so insurance could be pricey

Hey Dan, i know what your saying about getting her going mate, but i would rather see her sitting at home, than in a coffin or wheel chair mate.
Them mopeds should be banned, they are taken too lightly by people. I know of a couple of young guys who have been badly broke up off them, and one unfortunetly dead. all bikes are dangerous, but those fookn mopeds are always going to be getting in the way of people in cars and lorrys.. and on a bike, being in the way isnt a good thing.
I would seriously consider what you are doing mate.. anything happen and you will hate yourself... imo 4get this idea asap

Thanx Dave

Indeed Ken,
My dad is thinking along the same lines! Looking into getting a little car she can drive under his insurance!
I already have one of my sisters on my insurance,
Moped is a very cheap option though, :dontknow:
Thanx
Dan

Cheap for all the wrong reasons do Dan, cheap little car be best, insurance be the expensive part but i would rather pay a bit extra for the safety

I can't argue with that Ken!
Just very keen to get her off her arse, and make something of herself!
Dan

I've a mate paraylsed from a moped accident that wasn't his fault! Knocked off by some ditzy woman at 30mph and hit the kerb with the base of his back!

Screw the cheapness of em Dan... they're death traps! Loadsa cheap cars about and worth the extra insurance for piece of mind!

I started out on a moped and although it improved my awareness on the road it done absolutely nothing for the awareness of the others around me. I had a taxi driver pull out in front of me before, the bike went from under me under heavy braking. I slid straight across the on coming traffic and into a wall. The other car in the mean time kept going. Bikes no matter how slow they are can be death traps. Car is definately the best option IMO.

She's going to go for her driving test asap!
Moped is no longer an option!
Thanx very much for your help and input lads
Dan

Another thing to think of Dan, is that if she is sitting on her arse now, getting something handed too her too easy will be a bad thing, and also, the cost of running the thing mite have her broke and sitting on her arse even more... no mon no fun.
Sorry if that is a bit Dr Phil for you Dan, but ive seen a couple of good guys like yourself trying to help out a brother or sister /son or daughter and it can ruin them, some commitment /responsibility in the car/arrangment etc etc is needed

She lives with my Dad, half way around blessington lake,
About 8 miles on twisty hilly back roads from any real civilization,
So walking to work isn't an option!
I've tried leaving her to it, but it just frustrates me everytime I see her, still doing absolutely nothing!
My dad bought her a dog at Xmas, to keep her company, :icon_hang: FFS She's his little baby, :icon_rolleyes:
I managed to rehome the doggy recently, so she is free to make herself useful! It wouldn't have been fair on doggy to leave it alone all day!
Now the excuse is, "I have no way of to get to a job"
I already have my oldest sister insured on a car under my name (I've just spent all day fixing her gear linkages), and I can't insure another car!!
So at least my dad will have to take her on his insurance!
Thanx again lads
Dan
