Mental mental mental fastest lap

I like to have a crack this more than any other track..the downhill section from 2:00 to 2:19 looks so tricky..you would have to get the weight transfer spot on with all those changes in camber and tightening bends..brilliant driving by this lad

mount panorama is a mental track very old school go big or go home style track not the faint hearted but for me the mountain is all about the v8 thunder absolutely zero driver aids in these things with 650 at the rear wheels 6 speed sequential dog box and one big pair of balls ..these nut cases go down conrod staright at 300 kph through a right hand bend and just touch the rev limit in top gear before standing on the brakes before the chase chicane mental. and the noise :shock2: :cuckoo: :eek2

multiply the way it looks and sounds on the telly/youtube by 1000 and your not even close to the buzz of the place :icon_pray:

Maranello Motorsport are sitting on provisional pole as Mika Salo smashed the event lap record with a last ditch effort in first qualifying at Mount Panorama.

The Finn and the Maranello Motorsport Ferrari 458 squad saved their best until the dying embers of the session, with Salo posting a 2m03.9421s to grab provisional pole by eight tenths of a second.

As a result, the team are in position to claim the inaugural Allan Simonsen Trophy, which will be awarded to the pole position winning team in honour of the late great Simonesn, who sadly passed away last year.

Erebus Motorsport were second fastest with Maro Engel while the Nissan GTR piloted by Rick Kelly was third. Shane van Gisbergen was fourth fastest for the VIP McLaren just ahead of the former Bathurst 12 Hour race winner Christopher Mies in the Cini Audi.

It was perhaps fitting Salo and Maranello Motorsport set the fastest time as the squad ran the GT ace Simonsen in the event last year. Former F1 star Salo was particularly emotional following qualifying after saying before the session he wanted to claim pole for his former team mate.

“We need to keep the trophy for Allan Simonsen. He would have been on the pole anyway, so it’s good to get it for him,” Salo told Speedcafe.com.

“It was a clear lap from the traffic but it wasn’t a clean lap, there were a few mistakes from me,” he added of whether the times will be faster this afternoon.

“I don’t know how hot it will get this afternoon, but there is more in the car, definitely.”

The hour long session was not without issues as Jason Bright brought out the red flags early after a heavy accident.

Two more red flag periods followed leaving just 15 minutes to settle the order in the first qualifying session which is likely to feature the quickest times set today due to the cooler weather conditions.

Engel set the initial pace in the #1 Erebus Mercedes but his time was eclipsed soon after the session resumed following the third red flag period by the United Autosports Audi driven by Marcus Winkelhock.

The VIP McLaren, driven by Shane van Gisbergen, moved to the top of the time sheets shortly after dipping into the 2m04s bracket. Seconds later Engel lit up the timing screens but his effort was smashed by Salo.

The #71 Equity One Audi topped Class B in 14th overall, while the Griffith Corporation Ginetta headed Class C once again. The #51 IMAK Porsche was the quickest Class D runner.
