Modified cars incurance

Hi,

i know that about insurance, insurance, claims etc. there was a lot of things already written around this (and not only) country.

But with this thread I'd like to start - if possible - one good thread for all people looking for insurance on modified car.

After my last story with claim I wanted to be fair and to declare my mods - and heard from the company, that they can't insure me anymore, even if it would be just even
bigger brakes... so... here's the story again...

where to go the best to insure the car with modification - as I know some companies don't even want to hear about such cars.
But which companies will help?

cheers

They can't not insure you, it is the law in this country to have insurance so somebody has to give you insurance.

I am with Quinn Direct and declared my mods, added about 200 quid onto my premium though.

Steve.

Quinn direct - I remember once I called them, about 2 years ago - and I've been told they don't insure cars like turbo imprezas...
Did you hear anything like this from them? Or have you just called them asking for insurance on modified car and they told - yes, sure no problem, it will be this much... ?

quinn told me the same :angry1:

Isn't it interesting? But actually it seems to be nothing new, that each time they tell something different

I already had insurance with Quinn on a mirage and transferred from that to the scooby. So maybe thats why they didn't tell me to feck off??? :ponder2:

Only HIWD insured with modifications listed on policy? :)

BTW - what modifications do you list. I mean, let's say - you changed the manifold to aftermarket one - do you notify insurer?
You do rebuild on forged parts - what then?
Bigger turbo - do you specify exact model?
What about bigger injectors, remap?

cheers

i insured my b4 legacy with quinn without any problem. Had insurance on a non turbo skyline, rang to cancel that policy and a week later restarted my policy. I am 25 with 5 years no claims bonus and even got back €77 from my previous policy. Hard to believe 2.0litre twin turbo B4 cheaper insure then 150bhp skyline. As steve said they have to quote/ insure you but often it means having to speak to supervisor before they are allowed to give a quote! Time to open up our insurance market i reckon.

I asked quinn twice last week - even asking them about their own form for engineers report for modified car.
The answer was still "no".

It's a bit ridiculous I think.

Anyway - problem sorted :)

Anyone will insure a B4 legacy as they dont see it as a "sports" car, I know insurance companies that won't cover a 1.6 impreza just because its an impreza!

I'm with quinn too, and like steve they wouldn't quote me so i took out insurance with a corsa then swapped it to the scooby a month later
