Well Lads,
What started out as a short notice meet up following a phone call from a lady (Doreen) asking for our help, turned out to be great day with an even better turn out
We started out from Airside with a healthy 12 gleaming scoobies and then picked up another 3 on route and then met up with another 2 when we arrived at Castleblaney. It was a good spin up with everybody staying in line which made for a great spectacle. We then got in touch with Doreen who directed us to the family home of a young lad who was celebrating his 21st birthday. But this is no ordinary lad, when he was 19 years old he fell down 6 steps in college and is now paralised from the neck down, and ever since then his 11 year old sister waits hand on foot for him and does everthing she can to help him. He is a real petrol head and his collection of motorbike and road racing pictures and paintings was a real treat to see. His sister though was more into Scoobies than bikes and her face was priceless when she seen 17 Scoobies pulling into her front garden (and I'm glad to say everybody resisted the temptation of lifting the handbrake). She quickly spotted Michaels Spec C and made a beeline for it.... good to see she knows her cars
We were greated by at least 40 people who were chearing and taking pictures and they really made a great effort to make us feel welcome. JohnM presented the girl with a Subaru Jacket and ISDC mug, and she looked like the cat who'd got the cream sitting in the Spec C getting her picture taken.
It wasn't long before we heard the familiar rumble of a Scooby starting up and Johnny was taking the lad and his sister for a 'spirited' ride in his Type R. And it wasn't long before Michael was doing the same in his Spec C, in fact I'd say Michael used a full tank of fuel with the amount of runs he done We then headed to a local pub in Castleblaney where we had an area to ourselves and had a nice bit of grub before making the journey home.
So all in all it was a great day and the family couldn't thank us enough, you all made this lads birthday one he will never forget and I'd like to thank you all for making the effort at such short notice - you are all a credit to this Club and it's great to be able to bring so much joy to people who totally deserve it and I'd like to wish Dean and Megan all the best for the future.
Alan.
