... nothing out there to replace it with like-for-like... and realistically you'd miss it before long (happened to me).

Sure a new RS or Golf R will be similarly quick point to point... but different feel / experience... and although they might be cheaper to insure and tax etc... once you take depreciation into account they are not the cheaper option and IMO don't give the same level of satisfaction when driving.
