No just give it a good blast every now and then even when cruising no harm do it in lower gear and higher rev for a bit coming near test centre. When I was buying car I had this exact problem,in fairness the seller was sound and wouldn't sell to me until it was sorted. Changed plugs 1st,then new lamba and sealed centre to rear section of exhaust and put in a better condition cat. Eventually passed. When I was nctn car last July,I had 25,30 min drive to test centre. I drove it easy leaving house but then harder where I could and coming near test centre I drove it at lower gear with higher revs. After test I asked the tester how did emissions go any issues,no it passed emissions in literally 10seconds he said(just to note they took my car in straight away while cat was still piping hot)
