Lads, if you stop to think what Subaru are trying to achieve (as much as us devoted Impreza fans HATE :? ), all they trying to do is increase their %%% in market share. Larger market share - larger sales - larger profits, this is purely business driven - "Bottom Line" stuff. So enter the new "Hot Hatch" - because as much as we'd hate to admit it, the "Hot Hatch" is the car of the times I'm afraid.
(Well, it's a big % of the market). They no longer want to cater JUST for the "Boy Racer", or what we like to be called, The Enthusiast. They want to expand their market base to young, up and coming professionals, young families, etc. I don't like the fact that its going that way, cause owning a Impreza makes you feel part of an exclusive club really - you stick out of the crowd, and you are noticed. Not every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to be driving an Impreza.
Until now
.
I'm sure Subaru thought long and hard about how they may upset their current fan base - but maybe they thought the risk would be worth it, and introducing a "Hot Hatch" to the market, could gain a whole lot more support and create a new fan base larger numbers larger return. It's sad if this is what they are thinking - because guys like us have supported them for the last 12-15+ years. But like the Bug Eye, everyone hated the new change to the face of the Impreza - and only a couple years later, did they bring out the new redesigned Impreza, and everyone loves them again. I honestly think Subaru are at their "Bug Eye" stage again - introducing something new to the market. We never know, in a couple years they could go back to the tried and tested Impreza design.
My question is: Will there be anyone around who'd want to wait and see...??? :dunno:
But at this point, I guess we hang tight and hope that they do something amazing with the WRX and STi designs - I'm sure some will love it, and I'm pretty sure others will hate it. I guess it's a risk Subaru are willing to take.
