Well lads ,

time to retire my old philips tv , think its on the way out anyway , colour is all over the place etc :icon_evil:

Want to get a 40' lcd job , anything else is 2 big for the sitting room :icon_cry:

What i want is your recomendations for who makes the best lcd , your own experiences / problems and also where you bought your own , Power city lookin good at moment on price anyway

Any guidance is greatly appreciated

try pixmania lad ,
i got mine there a couple years ago , 200 quids cheaper than anyone in town ....
and delivered it to work for me an all... which was nice

but your saying you are going for a LCD , would you not consider one of the second gen plasma screens , they are outperforming the LCD screens in terms of quality these days so ive read ....

panasonic are probably the best in terms of tvs but this is reflected in there prices
if you can go for plasma
i got myself a 50ins plasma for 850
what sort of budget do you have tommy

Been looking in the local stores and really think the led screens appear sharper than plasma plus know a few people who have had trouble with the plasma ones

Cant go bigger than 40-42 due to space tom , Agree about panasonic been top notch gear but the prices seem to be really reflective of that , would go to 700 quid or small bit more

at siverbullitt , how long did it take for delivery

Have a 50' LG plasma in the gaff and shes crisp..

Had a samsung 50' plasma before and needed replacing twice a they were sh*t IMHO

First time there was a black line across the screen which was down to something burning out (after 6weeks)

and the second had lots of little black spots in each corner after 4weeks and thats with changing channell every so often and being careful after the first not to stay on the one thing for too long as this imprints the image intothe screen!!

I found that the top quality picture was Panasonic but best value is LG when getting that big.

Beleive it or not, Harvey Norman were the best priced crowd at the time and myself and dad shopped round

everywhere...even up north as we were uprgrding to Sky Digital for all the games and the mammy is a movie buff so wanted something good!!!

Cant go wrong with LG or Panasonic IMHO!!!

Thats the sort of problem i heard of from friends ,

thats why i would be more inclined to buy lcd ,

anyone know anything about the led tv ? seems to come up alot on web searches

ive a samsung 50' from "go harvey go" , for 800 yo yo .it was on "special".
he was best price 6 months ago

went for plasma over lcd as imo lcd screens looked more blocky like a bad chorus signal . was also told plasma hold movin pictures better than lcd.

+1 for pixmania on price

LED seems the way forward alright, brand new technology and Samsunbg have invested massively in it. Just make sure the tv you get is 1080P and the screen refresh rate is at least 100Hz (anything less and you may start to see trails when watching sports etc)...

Currys having sale tomorrow...could be worth a look.

Remember cash is king at the mo and dont be afraid to chance yer arm for a free stand!!

Worked for us at the time!!!

have a 60" samsung led flatscreen the missus got me for my birthday and its a class job!!!!
defo recommend led over plasma IMO...

Got a Panasonic 42" Plasma here

FANTASTIC

Couldnt praise it enough for Games Movies and anything else

Get yourself onto avforums tom & read a load of reviews before making a decision.

You've seen my Sony, got 5 star reviews when I was buying a tv & can be picked up for maybe 40% less than I paid last December

i would need an extension to fit a 60" in to the house .

Samsung have some great lookin tv's out there , think it'll be a 42 inch version 4 me

delivery in total took 3-4 days delivered from pixmania

but as the lads said , cash is king , so if your willing to do the legwork go into town with a printout of the one you want on pixmania ,
try and get em to match the price , or offer a few extras along with it ...
you might be surprised

Have a Phillips 42" plasma ambilight, paid over €2,000 about 2 years ago, but its still going strong without any issues. Picture quality is brilliant too.

Dunno what Phillips are like these days for price but build quality and reliability is second to none IMO
