p1 vs 22b

well lads its a question i wanted to know about the p1 and 22bs.has the p1 fewer jap parts taking out and more prodrive goodies, but why was the dccd taking out of the it.and the 22b a more wider suspension arch and a semiwelded bodyshell with a 2.2 engine.but its the p1 faster than the 22b.ye might laugh at me but just wanna know more about them

There was never a 2 door impreza for the UK market until the P1-I don't know why they didnt have DCCD. A lot of figures I've seen quote the P1 as 0-100km 4.4secs and the 22B as 4.6secs. The truth is,you would have to be fairly brutal with the cars launch to achieve these figures. Initially there were supposed to be 500 P1's made but because the order books filled so fast the production run was extended to 1000. Only 424 22B's were made, numbered 1-400 with no #13. The other 25 cars went to the likes of mcrae and grist and were numbered 0000. Its rumoured that the car that would've been #13 was shipped to the U.S. for promotional purposes. 22B's are 2212cc and while official figures quote output at 276bhp its rumoured to be more in the region of 320bhp and 300lb/ft torque. 16 cars were officially imported to the UK and differ from the Jap specs due to changes by prodrive-driving lamps instead of covers, delimited and converted to read mph,and a taller 5th gear for motorway cruising. All 22B's also had quick rack steering, forged suspension arms and 17"BBS wheels.

cheers b4.the 4.4secs and the 4.6 secs would be much of a difference between them but i find it hard why they took out the dccd from the p1 when it was on all the classics.but loads power

DCCD was not on all classics-only type-r's. I would guess that it was left out of the P1s due to the type-r's short gearing. The UK P1 would've been used on motorways much more so the standard STI box was used as it had longer ratios.

I myself dont see any reason for the price of a P1, Give me a 00 Type R v limited any day.
P1 may a bit quicker to 60 due to the 22b being a small bit more chubby. But the 2.2 should have the legs over the 100mph stretch.
Think the P1 was just an attempt to bit into the Jap import Type R demand.. I think the P1 is basically a more tamer/ refined Type R. THAT COSTS LOADS MORE

thanks sweetcakes.i meant ringing you about going for full membership.still wanna go ahead and get it done asap long enough driving subarus now time to be apart of the team

As above,
I'd have a V6 type r V limited over a P1
And for the price of a 22b or a P1, I would do the wide body conversion and huge brakes and 400bhp/400lbft :icon_headbang:

EVO did a very good comparisson of all the best Scooby specials and the P1 was their pick of the bunch although the Newage Spec was faster. The 22b did in fact only have 280ps (276bhp) when tested but it has more torque and it arrives earlier in the rpm range. The P1's suspension is superior to the V6 Type R and with the option of Alcon brakes which quite a few buyers specced stops better too. The P1 is also mapped for UK fuel so no need to remap it (Prodrive remaped the donor cars when they came in from Japan and fully type approved them including fitting a solid rear bulk head to comply with the EU's stricter safety requirements).

With a P1 what you are paying for and getting is exclusivity. When buying from new you were also getting a full warranty so you were getting exclusivity and peace of mind. Provided you can afford one in the first place, you get it back in their retained resale price so in the long run it is a better buy than a V6 Type R. Also, I think it is by far the best looking Scoob with its unique P1 front splitter, Prodrive driving lights, P1 rear wing and lovely Alcons nestling under the P1 Gunmetal 18 rims. The optional Prodrive headlights were very rarely chosen probably because they looked truly awful.

Arent those Alcons usually fooked off them because of the price of the pads? Maybe i am mistaking but werent they 500 quid or something stupid??
And just wondering how the suspension was better than the v5/v6 on STI inverted struts?

  More like a fetish :icon_redface:
Prodrive probably rated their own springs and damper, and ofcourse geometry, All of which I would do to any scooby!
They both have Vf28's so power difference is in the mapping, Again, I'd be doing that any way!
If I had a P1 or a V6 type r the only thing I would swap for would be one of those new FT86 toyobaru thingys!
Dan

Dan you say mapping, Would prodrive have the best mappers?

(Pub talk) But it was said to me before that they were, but i said why would you pay prodrive a fortune.
when some of the lads here and the ones that come over here are just as good.

Do prodrive even map car off the street :ponder2:

I'm sure prodrive employ good mappers,
They would push a car as much as a custom map, because I'm sure they leave a warrantyable safety margin!
You are paying for the name and unless you are spending loads and loads of money, I'm sure you would not benifit from prodrives vast experiance!
Dan
