Part identification (not subaru)

Was driving the folks 1.5dci Nissan qashqai yesterday and there was an annoying buzzing/whirring sound from the engine bay. Parked up and kept it running and the noise was coming from the little round yoke with the grey cap on the right of the photo. Theres two hoses going into the bottom of it.

Heres a shot from further away to give an idea where its located in the engine bay.

wonder is it an egr valve? not up on nissan's.

That'd be my guess aswell.

Exhaust Gas Regulator. Glorified & over-complicated Lambda sensor if ya ask me....
