Im looking to rent an apartment somewhere in Dublin, other options is considered are a house/apartment share but that would ideally have to be with someone i know. I've been trawling daft.ie for the last week or so trying to figure out a good area to move in to . thoughts at the moment are around Dublin 16,18 and 24, somewhere that is handy enough to get to work within 30 mins(Grangecastle) city center is fairly easy to access, near luas possibly have secure off street parking for car.

So area's that spring to mind are Dundrum, Sandyford, Rathfarnham,Knocklyon, Tallaght, seems like the going rate for renting 1 bed is around 750-900 and 1200-1300 for 2 bed. House shares between 500-700. Lots of factors to decide on about what best suits my needs etc, i never rented before so this game is new to me! I dont need to be too close to city center as that will makle journeys to work longer, but it would be convenient to be near one of the LUAS lines(walking distance) Also hopefully any place i rent isn't too restrictive if i ever need to move out etc if circumstances change(might loose deposit etc)

Any crappy tried and tested rental areas that i should avoid, Im currently only considering south city and co. as most friends and family are that side. Any things to look our for when renting and if you had the choice what option would you go for?

tick nock always looked good to me Dan (not sure exact name but may be that )
knew a few people who rented there (Lotti on here lives up that way )
some off them have under ground car parking too
not very good for walking to the luas
but fuel costs wouldnt be dear for you to get to work from there
its up near 3 rock so be great in the summer
nearly across the road from lamb doyles pub
worth checking out maybe

decent places on the wickham bypass / and near dundrum shopping centre too
personally living near dundrum would suit me if i was moving
but your on the other luas line i think for work
some down near rathfarnam village nice and close to the :police: station
parking would be important to me

good luck whatever you get
but make sure you chose right

Dan, stay outta Tallaght, I can say that beacuse I lived there for 26 years and had nothing but hassle with cars over the years, and I lived in Firhouse, a relatively quiet part. Citywest is worth a look, lots of apartments & townhouses. Knocklyon ain't bad but a good 15 mins to either Luas line, dumdrum etc have a lot more apartments with secure parking but just bear in mind it's still a trawl to grangecastle every day and a nightmare the second something goes down on the M50.

Other than that Fook herself out and stay put

well considering where im living now in Tyrrelstown i'd say Tallaght would be an improvement. I was looking at those newish apartments around the square, If the place has underground secure parking, il be happy. Would citywest not be the same as Tallaght?

It's just far enough, Citywest/ saggart ain't too bad and are right on the Luas line. The apartments in the square are mainly full of welfare jobbies , I'm not taking about people genuinely out of work I'm talking about the ten baby type to make a few bob. 2 of the girls i work with live there, they bought in the good times and would love to get out. Walls are paper thin too. The parking ain't so secure, the gates are always failing, one lives in the ones over woodies by the maldron and another lives in the ones over the Supervalu at the square.

ok thats put me right off there so, went to view a place today up in stocking lane wood near Knocklyon, nice area, but house in question only parking available was on the road on a narrow cul de sac, not ideal, also sharing with 2 women, one was a hottie! Came across another place in Knocklyon, i lived there for most my life so know the area well. house share with 1 other guy in Woodfield, seems like a big house, awaiting more info on that. ill have a look around citywest area too.

im living in Tallaght 30 years now, if you go by what was said about having nothing but hassle with cars then you might as well do what half of the country has done and jump ship as it happens everywhere, your going to get sh*t heads everywhere no matter where you live, i live beside the square in sprinfield, 3 bed house room for 2 cars in the garden also i have gate to park out the back of the house and i pay 800 a month and its only a new built house as well

My advice is keep looking and maybe call into an estate agent as not all lettings are listed online

Have you checked Kiltipper in Tallaght? Or there's an estate up further from the roundabout from there but I can't remember the name of it right now. Nice houses and parking right in front of the apartment and in some cases right out the bedroom window.

my sister lives up Kiltipper way direction, didnt see much there at the minute on Daft, going to look at a apartment share tomorrow up in Hunterswood in Ballycullen, seems ok area

I used to live up there it wasn't to bad...lived in kiltipper gate apartments..security gates so not to bad.......lived in plenty of kips and tallaght has its fair share but it was quite enough up there....only 10 minutes from some savage mountain roads as well...that was the biggest plus for me.... i used to hockey down that road from the hellfire
