So i have persuaded the facility guys to install a car lift on-site in the new building we have going up. WE will have an area of about 4m x 6m to put it in so what would be the best option to go for a 2 post or 4 post lift? Where's the best place to get one too?

Get a wide 2 post. Will be enough unless theres gonna be bodywork done. Fallon in roscommon has good value and will deliver.

as above pj fallon we got 1 from him very good value and good service 2 post be best as u can do nearly anythin u desire from a 2post

Got a new scissor lift in from the uk just over 2grand with vat number.
Garage equipment man on eBay is the crowd.
Much better for space if you put into the ground.always out of the way when not in use.

i go with with the scissor lift as graham said and you have the best of both worlds a shed to valet the car as well as a lift when you Need it

something like this Graham:

how would you work on the suspension on a lift like that or be able to take wheels off?

2 posts lifts are the only way to go, ive worked under 4 posts, does scissors ones and i find they are a pain in the ball bag, things that are under centre of body, or having to try get wheels off on 4 posts are just a pain.
You can reach everything with a 2post

we have the three types in my work ,4 post ,2 post and scissor and i have to say the scissor lifts are by far the most practical to use they will lift cars and vans and leave access to every mechanical part of the vehicle and an added bonus is that they fold flat into the floor so when not in use you have the full floor as its not taken up with any part of the lift,so perfect for the home garage

That link won't work?

I do everything in work on a scissor ramp.
Removing engines,boxes, you name it.
I've. Ever had a problem using one.if you line up the car properly
You can do any job.

I'd go for a 2 post. Worked in Nissan dealers years ago and the 4 post was always empty as it was too bloody awkward to use.

I'd be in two minds bout a scissor lift. Mate had one fitted in his garage and used to struggle getting access to centre of car and has since replaced it with a 2 post. If you have the space the 2 post is bar far the easiest to use and gives the best access.

Just bought a Scissors Lift off Redmount:

Another friend got a 2 post high lift for working on Land Rovers, off them and good service and high quality machinery.

Mate who just bought a 2 post... bought one of these. Seem like good quality alright.... fairly heavy duty.

Those prices are a lot less than i was expecting, although i suppose you have to throw installation costs on top :ponder:

Cost of fitting the 2 post isn't that much. Can't remember how much exactly... But surprisingly cheap. My mate fitted his own to save costs and had it up in a weekend. Not something I'd probably take on myself but it's do-able.

Get a decent retractable wall mounted air line reel.
I've a snap-on 18M one and it keeps it tidy and off the floor.

Gear box stand is a must too and an engine brace.

so looks like we are going with this one, they are starting the ground works on Monday, oil spill containment etc(feckin safety boys!)

Space is kind of limited. What would be the ideal amount of space to have around the car of working on it etc? Would you be able to swap clutches etc on a scissors lift? There should be room to drop the gearbox etc on most saloon sized vehicles?

Need to make a decision on this fairly quickly and get an order in this week, any last input appreciated!

(any last advice) go with the advice from lads that are using them every day they know what there talking about
