Refurb Gold Brembo Brake Calipers

Sunday Drivers
Hey lads,

I got a set of 2nd hand Brembos but the paint work aint great on them. I was thinking before i get them fit to try get them looking better.
The closest paint match (going by other sites)seems to be this: Honda Inca Pearl, paint code Y-61P, part number 08703-Y61PPAH.

The problem is that it's not a high temp paint, it would do for touching up but i think mine might need more but maybe i'd get way with it.
Just want to know if anyone has done it before??, any ideas??.

I know godspeed do a great job but ends up £££££££.

maybe take them apart send them off to get powder coated somewhere then put in a new seal kit = brand new Brembo's! :653:

I went through the same thing last year. I even contacted Brembo in Italy and they don't want to know you. They wont give you a colour code or any help at all. I even asked them if I could send my calipers to them for refurb, they said NO :icon_rolleyes:

The biggest problem with "touching up" Brembo calipers is the fact that they change colour with heat. So if you (like me) got a second hand set that have a fair bit of mileage on them, they turn darker, kind of orangy over time with heat. So trying to colour match them isn't easy.

I got that Honda paint made up and its not really the same shade as my calipers but its close enough so that you dont notice the black marks and scratches. It would be a perfect match if the calipers were new, but of course i wouldn't need it if they were new

If you can find a paint that matches your colour calipers exactly then there is a crowd called PR Reilly Ltd. over in Kilbarrack, they will make anypaint you want in high temp, AFAIK they need a colour code though.

I hope this helps

Here's PR Reilly's website: http://www.team.ie/contact_us.php

What about an accident repair place that has those laser machines that match colour to colour, like when they take your fuel filler flap to get the exact match? Would they be able to help? I'd also be interested in this.

As requested Sir.

This is the way they all are TBH and one is a little worse :(. Looking there i don't think a touch up will do at all.

You could try here, maybe ask for a Brembo gold colour match and see how you get on

Looking at their FAQ Nick(copied below). This is what they say. A little bit conflicting though but i think they are saying there original colours wont match but with the proper colour code they can match it. But the bottom piece about non international delivery might be a sticky point!!!

Edit: Regarding delivery. THEY wont ship to Ireland due to the brake cleaning fluid but god bless Ebay'ers who don't have such concerns. There's kits for sale there if anyone wants, problem is they wont have the Brembo gold. The black and red will look nice too i suppose......hmmmmm.....

>> Does your G2™ color match Brembo Gold, Ferrari Yellow, Z06 Red, etc.???

No. Our standard G2™ colors are not designed to match any existing colors, nor do we claim that they will. The only exception to that would be our Limited Edition Mustang Colors which are formulated using the Ford color codes, making them an exact match, and custom colors which will be formulated to match the sample provided exactly.

Since it is virtually impossible to describe a color (My idea of deep blue may not even be close to your idea of deep blue.), and not all monitors are created equally, please don't ask us if our red is a deep red, or our green is a dark green, or if our yellow is a bright yellow we can't really answer these questions. We offer free color swatches to any who request them, so If you're not sure, by all means request a color swatch and compare it yourself. You can request a free color swatch here. Just let us know which color you're interested in in the comments.

>> Can you custom match any color???

We can, and will custom match any color, however custom colors based on non-manufacturer colors are available in case counts only. Meaning if you wanted a brake caliper paint to match your car clubs custom color scheme, the minimum order would have to be at least 12 kits. Prices will vary based on raw materials required for your color, however most custom colors will run anywhere from $99.99 to $129.99 per kit. So... For example let's say you wanted to paint your brake calipers aquamarine to match the custom graphics on your ride.

You would need to let us know you are interested in a custom aquamarine color by emailing us at info@g2usa.com. You will then be advised on where to send the color sample. Once the sample is received we will have it analyzed and a formula for that color will be developed, as well as a price per kit based on the raw materials needed. Samples will be supplied to you for approval, and if all is well your custom order will go into production once payment is made.

Color Match items must be shipped via FedEx Ground within the contiguous 48 states only. This kit contains an aerosol brake cleaner which CANNOT be shipped to ANY destination other than a valid street address deliverable by Fedex Ground within the 48 States, therefore we are unable to ship to Post Office Boxes, APO, AK, HI, PR, GUAM, and any International addresses. There will be absolutely no exceptions.

Yeah I had the same trouble with G2 USA :icon_rolleyes:

Best to get it done yourself in Ireland

There is a step by step Brembo calliper painting guide here if anyone wants to read it, if you fancy trying your hand let me know your price

Although a touch up i would not mind doing myself i don't think i'd trust myself doing a full respray like this, i'd rather pay someone with ability....But i suppose if i did try and they turn out crap then i can just try it again

To be honest if im getting them resprayed i dont really care if it 2 shades darker or 1 lighter then the official Brembo colour (I do love them big orange Callipers & would like a similar colour ). Once they look well and fresh(decals can be got off ebay handy) then i'd be very happy.

Thats some job that guy did on them.

Only problem i see is we need to find VHT paint in a gold colour, (black is easy to find), and VHT laquer. Other than that i can do them

New Hatch STI's have Black STI branded Brembo calipers!
Maybe go at that??

TBH I don't like the STi decal on the new calipers, I'd rather do the ones in the link above. Nice shinny black with Brembo decal, think it looks much nicer

I actually emailed a power coating place in Tallght today and talked to another and they said they wont do brake calipers :(.

I think the ones in that thread turned out class (black with white decals). If i am going another colour I think I will go red with white brembo decals. That G2 kit has a red paint and can be gotten off ebay for $35.

I would of preferring the gold but i have spent hours on this today and the best for that option I think I can get is to give the Honda code and get a high temp paint made off that. I emailed PR Reilly's today so i'll see what they say but even if they can its still an unknown what it will turn out like. The red G2 had been done a 1000 times and I have seen pics from the net which look really well. (my favorite though is your man in that thread, really looks an excellent finish)

Im going to go shopping for stuff tomorrow to start getting the calipers stripped and cleaned.

I have to say I love the black. But it could be under stated for a lot of lads that what to show that they have brembo breaks on their cars. Wouldn't stand out in your face. But I like them. The silver brembo decals look the dogs also.

Right made a good start today, I'm probably about 80%+ finished with the prep work on the 4 calipers. They are all at the same stage about... I just ran out of time today so will get them finished some evening next week.

If anyone else if planning this double the amount of time you think its going to take you :hammerhead:

I took some quick photos with the phone after i'd finished today's round. Still aint decided on the color/paint but that's a more fun part ,I want to get the hard work out of the way first!!

Firstly I gave a good scrub with warm soapy water, and i got a brake cleaner spray from haldford with some wet & dry sand paper. This got off most of the heavy dirt/build up with a good scrub.

Once they were resonable i used Nitro-morse for the paint removing. To be honest it acts as a very good cleaning agent too .

If you have never used it before it is a stripping agent. It comes out as a thick liquid almost gel. Get a brush and brush on good thick coat's and leave it for a few mins. You'll then see the paint start to blister/crack. Then apply another coat over the blistering paint and leave it for about 10 more mins, you hear the paint sizziling off. Then you can scrub off the paint easily will little effort.

Not sure what effect it will have on the seals ETC so i really masked them heavily just in case. If your not a idiot who knocks over the bottle and spills a quarter of it <------------------, the 500 mil bottle i got would of done the 4 calipers. Do not get it on your skin or it will burn you!!!
