remapping

after reading some of the posts i'm noticing that remapping a jap import is necessary. only thing is i've had my car for about 2yrs now, its an 99 sti version 5 running it on super unleaded so far so good! hope this isn't a silly question but y should this be done?

the re-map is needed cause we use 95 octane petrol (normal unleaded) and the japs use 98 octane. i think anyway

seening as normal unleaded is 95 octane cud it be that super is more its jus i really hope so as its so expensive

where are you located, north or south, if your north you may not need a remap as you can get the higher octain fuel, ie super unleaded or super plus eve have nav gas which has a rating of 101 octain but is expensive, at the mo super is 91 pence a lt and super plus is 95 pence a lt....

Niall
there is a petrol station out side letterkenny does sell super unleaded, found it last year when i was up there for the donegal rally, it was a Maxol station just out side

so i take from the posts that there aint very many places down south where you all can get super and super plus petrol, why is this?, if this is the case i now understand why yas all have to go for remaps

The Jap cars are set up for 101 or 102 ron petrol so thats what you need to match. Unless I could get that id remap it but in saying that you have been lucky so far and havent had a problem.

On mapping days when Andy is over there does be the odd car from up North with 97ron Petrol but it still wasent very good.

On the 31st May 2005 Taxes on higher ron petrol were raised and from then on NO company brought it in after that. So NO petrol station in Southern Ireland sells Super Unleaded 97ron petrol. No matter wat story you here.

[shadow=red, left]sorry dave your mistaken on that one, there is a petrol station in letterkenny does sell super unleaded, albeit he gets it in for when the international rallys on........

i know i was there and that was june of this year and the year before that, thats why i cud'nt understand wot yas were all on about when ya all said ya dont ave super unleaded.....[/shadow]

gojonnyjo i would love so much if that was correct but as Dave
says it's not sold in the Republic, I contacted Texaco at the time it
was pulled from the market, and they said it's not stored in Ireland
period.................... i was trying to convince my local gargae where i always
bought 97Ron but he simply could not or did not want to get it.

Now i still incounter pumps that say SUL or 97RON and when i've asked
"Yep Sir...........that there be the best petroll in Ireland"
normally followed by "Ya Right ya country bollocks"

But i suppose Letterkenny been so close to all that "Cheap Fuel" you can by off
your local farmer ;)..................it's possible

Niall.

the guy brought it in for the grp n cars taking part in the rally, it was a rally driver of a grp n scooby that told us where to get it.... and when my car was filled wi it it ran as normal, and she goes like a dog wi 95 ron and only runs wi 97 + ron as thats the way the ecu is mapped. Strange to say the least.......

But i will be up there again in the new year and have a chat wi the guy....

gojonnyjo if you could get any info that would be great.
I had a list of 32 names who promised they would by a tank
of SUL a week from my Local Texaco................the owner did
consider this been a keen rally lad himself but told me it simply
couldn't be got...............

Im sure if i had some proper info he might re-consider......
.........................i live in hope .

I'm up top of donegal and there is a place 20mins from me jus on the border of derry where i buy super there is also a petrol station 40mins away on the way to letterkenny that sells it. not always do they have it as they say it doesnt keep very long and can't order it large amounts, but if one doesn't have the other always does. bit of a drive i know but cheaper than a new engine.

yea can be a pain, im always up for the Donegal international rally as i do the time keeping on the start of stage one. so i have to plan routes so that i can always get the super when im at the rally, because ya tend to go through alot of jungle juice when ya get to go through the rally stage to meet up with your team at the end of it.

what station is the one on the way to letterkenny, it wud'nt be a maxol garage by any chance  :ponder:

i think so not too sure though its in a place called Burt. Should i still consider remapping even though i run it on super do ya think?

theres better guys on here would be able to tell you, but i think it would be better to be safe than sorry, jap fuel is a higher octain so you may need to. I am sure the guys on here will help and give you the best advice...

its not callaghans they don't sell super anymore its a small filling station after there on way to letterkenny. i used to go to callaghans for alloys and different bits and pieces years ago but now that more people go to them they aren't v.helpful don't seem to need my money anymore. They hav lost my custom and quite a few others.

Oh right got decals and plates done up there a few months ago and have bought wheels there in the past. All the Sligo lads go up there. Theres nowhere in Sligo that does wheels and decent decals and plates. Big opening if anyone wants to set up a shop in Sligo
